Khanh Hoa Public Security’s Traffic Police Department has launched a concentrated inspection campaign to assure traffic safety in Nha Trang City during the New Year season 2020. The concentrated road safety inspection takes place from December 15, 2019 to February 14, 2020.

Senior Lieutenant Colonel Ngo Van Thao, Chief of Khanh Hoa Public Security’s Traffic Police Department says the concentrated road safety inspection focuses on maintaining road traffic safety, imposing fines to traffic rule violations such as drunk driving, drug–impaired driving, speeding, illegal parking, wrong-way driving, driving without a driver’s license, overloading, violating pick up and drop off regulations, failure to allow other vehicles to overtake or pass at their request when it is safe to do so; vehicle expiration, vehicle registration expiration and uninsured motorists. The inspection targets at coaches, container trucks and automobiles.

Regarding rail transportation, traffic troopers will partner with local authorities and rail officials to conduct rail crossing inspections at crossings without guards or in locations where people often trespass or cross tracks illegally; fire and explosion control and prevention; passenger and cargo transportation regulatory compliances. The inspection will be followed by suggestions for precautionary measures to be taken to enhance safety and prevent rail traffic crashes in high-risk locations during the holiday.

To assure safe inland waterway travel during the festive season 2020, before the lunar New Year, traffic police will focus inspection on goods trade, exploitation of mineral resources, passenger transportation along rivers and on fixed key transport routes. Besides, the traffic police force will actively grasp the current situation to effectively fight against and deter crimes and other traffic law violations; as well as have traffic control plans to prevent prolong travel congestion.

The concentrated campaign takes place throughout the province; therefore, patrol staff are needed in many different places with 3 consecutive work shifts a day. Apart from staffing challenge, other difficulties include lack of equipment for inspection patrol.

However, all the officials are determined to overcome challenges, further uphold the sense of responsibility, promote behavioral culture, strictly abide by the work process, and comply by orders to fulfill assigned tasks to urge safe travel during the coming New Year season.
