Nha Trang Women’s Union has expanded the campaign against plastic waste to all of its branches. Many members and women have actively responded to the event, contributing to the environmental protection.
Widely expanded
Le Thi Xuan, Tri Nguyen Island, Vinh Nguyen Ward used to use disposable plastic products at her family events and parties. She used to buy plastic bags and containers and then throw them away. However, thanks to the plastic pollution propaganda, she started to get rid of the habit of using plastic bags by carrying a reusable bag and containing food and other stuff in paper or cloth bags when going shopping to reduce plastic waste.

“I used to use disposable plastic bags without thinking of the consequences. But now I am aware of the adverse impacts of plastic bags on the environment. Therefore, I have gradually changed my habit and ask my families to stop using single-use plastic products. Little changes can make a big difference for the environmental sake, I think,” says Le Thi Xuan.
In 2019, Vinh Nguyen Ward Women’s Association held many activities to response to the campaign against plastic pollution such as coastal clean-up and environmental protection especially joined by members living on islands in the ward. Besides, the association has launched a campaign for 1,958 families registering for taking part in the fight against plastic pollution, reaching 99.9% of the plan.
Moreover, 250 shopping bags have been delivered to the members and on-site garbage classification has been mobilized. Women’s association branches have joined clean-up effort twice a month. Especially, many branches have founded groups in charge of plastic waste classification to raise funds for the poor, according to Mai Do Thi Phuoc Chau, Chairperson of Vinh Nguyen Ward Women’s Association.
Promising sign
Nguyen Thi Phuong Duyen, Chairperson of Nha Trang City Women’s Association says in 2019, the association has cooperated with Cau Bong Border Station to launch environmental coastal clean-up days. Agricultural units have joined to develop the campaign against plastic waste. Plastic-free meetings have been encouraged with glass containers instead of single-use plastics.
After 1 year of implementation of the campaign, 4,300 reusable shopping bags have been delivered to members. Many activities against plastic pollution have included road clean-up and flower-planting; plastic bag collection in water, plastic bag use reduction, environmental self-management, green Saturday, workday for the green environment, volunteering for the green environment, etc. Plastic waste propaganda together environmental protection activities and plastic waste reduction models have become regular tasks of the association branches.
In the coming time, Nha Trang City Women’s Association will continue expanding the plastic waste reduction models and activities, contributing to protecting and improving the environment in an effort to keep the city clean and beautiful in a sustainable way.
