In 2019, Khanh Vinh District Red Cross has effectively implemented charity programs and projects totaling more than VND4.5 billion, giving the disadvantaged more resilience to overcome the hardship and obstacles in life.

Practical aid

In late July, thanks to Khanh Vinh District Red Cross working as a connection, Ho Chi Minh Power Company volunteers and other benefactors donated solar-operated lighting facilities to 88 families in need. Each lighting set was worth some VND1.5 million. Ha Vloi, Chairman of Cau Ba Commune Fatherland Front Committee says, “20 homes located far away from the power grid in Da Trang Village used to live without electricity. Some had to pay up to VND10 million to reach the power source. This time, 8 homes were provided power supply. The help means a lot to the families here. Hopefully, the district Red Cross will continue providing a link to help the others.”

In addition, the local Red Cross has cooperated with the Steering Board of Reproductive Cow Bank to offer 5 cows to poor families in Khanh Dong Commune. They were among several charity activities jointly held by the district Red Cross.

More meaningful activities

Under the consultancy of the local Red Cross at all levels, in 2019, 15 severely disadvantaged families have received housing grants from Khanh Hoa Provincial Fatherland Front Committee and Isabell Association (France). The district Red Cross has mobilized sponsors to present 20 scholarships worth more than VND34 million and offer 494 gifts and 74 bikes to needy students, according to Le Thi My Linh, Vice-Chairman of the District Red Cross.

Phan Dinh Huan, Vice-Chairman of Khanh Hoa Provincial Red Cross says, in spite of challenges and obstacles, the charity work of Khanh Vinh District Red Cross has gained satisfactory achievements through many practical programs for local residents, gradually confirming the key role and creating a link in charity work of the Red Cross.

Moreover, under the Lunar New Year program for the poor and Agent Orange victims, the district Red Cross has cooperated with charity organizations and individuals inside and outside Khanh Hoa Province to offer more than 8,470 gifts totaling more than VND2.7 billion to the needy, including 360 needy people and 88 Agent Orange victims in the district on the occasion of the Lunar New Year 2019. Besides, the association has mobilized sponsors to donate 2,750 gifts to poor families; cooperated with Khanh Hoa Red Cross to deliver 650 gifts to severely disadvantaged ones in Khanh Thuong Commune, Son Thai and Khanh Hiep.

Apart from charity work, the district Red Cross and its branches have cooperated with local medical stations to propagandize epidemic prevention and control; food safety; disaster prevention and preparedness; and other activities for nearly 5,000 arrivals; mobilized more than 1,670 people to join blood donation, giving 853 units of blood, helping cover funeral costs of 32 people.

The association plans to continue implementing charity activities, boosting the cooperation among agencies, organizations and calling organizations and individuals to join the charity campaign, contributing to improving social welfare in the district, adds Le Thi My Linh.
