Over the past years, Khanh Hoa Children's Fund has organized a variety of activities to assist children suffering from serious diseases in giving them more strength and vigor to overcome difficult circumstances in life.

Difficult circumstances

4-year-old Nguyen Minh Tuan residing in Phong Phu 2, Ninh Giang, Ninh Hoa Town, is suffering from lymphoma. The little child has experienced radiation therapy 3 times. His mother named Tran Thi Thuy said her son got sick in November 2018 and was required to get treatment in Ho Chi Minh City. Her family is so poor and she still has another 2-year-old child to take care of.

Nguyen Thi Hong Loan, 14 years old, in Ninh Loc Commune, Ninh Hoa Town had a traffic accident on the way home from school in March. She got a stroke and was transferred to Cho Ray Hospital, Ho Chi Minh City. Now she is right-sided paralyzed and unable to stand up.

“We are so stunned by the bad news about my daughter’s health and worried about the hospital fee. We have three children. The oldest one also has a mental problem after a recent accident. The other child has just finished school and is still looking for a job. We both work on the farm, struggling to get ends meet. We have to take Nguyen Thi Hong Loan to Ho Chi Minh City for follow-up examination monthly, causing us to fall into financial trouble,” says her father Nguyen Sinh Truong.

Giving more strength and vigor

Luu Thi Ngoc Lien, Acting Director of Khanh Hoa Children’s Fund says, "Child care support, especially for children suffering serious diseases has been focused, benefiting thousands in Khanh Hoa every year. Many programs on cleft lip & palate repair; eye and heart operation; scholarships, school supplies, long-term sponsorship; rehabilitation for the disabled, school repair and construction, etc."

“When my daughter was sick for over 1 year, my family started to apply for financial assistance. We are so grateful to the help for my son’s medical treatment,” adds Tran Thi Thuy.

Like Nguyen Minh Tuan, Nguyen Thi Hong Loan has also been given priority in support thanks to the recommendation of the Children’s Fund. Her health has gradually recovered after receiving routine intensive treatment and care.

In addition, thanks to a wide variety of practical support, over the past years, children in Khanh Hoa have had their rights protected and promoted. In 2018, Khanh Hoa allocated tens of billions VN dongs to child care and protection. Thanks to the central budget and community support, Khanh Hoa has paid visits and offered gifts to children on national holidays; organized amusement activities for children in summer, etc.

Since the beginning of the year, Khanh Hoa Department of Labor, War Invalids & Social Affairs has organized public awareness programs which seek to raise public awareness of child abuse, neglect, violence and accident control and prevention. In the Children’s Action Month this year, Khanh Hoa Children’s Fund received more than VND3 billion from many organizations and agencies in support of children.

The child malnutrition rate for children under 5 has declined to 8.5% with malnourished children down to 12%. 98% of severely disadvantaged children have received schooling, 100% abandoned orphans have been given care and support.
