Teacher Tran Thi Bich Chi, Dien Khanh Vocational School says the learners are very receptive and keen on learning. In spite of mobility impairment, they are very excited to learn and practice making some simple cakes such as traditional sticky rice cakes, sponge cakes and cream puffs. Dried flour is used to make the mixing flour easier for the disabled. “We hope learners can work to earn a living after the class. They can do the work individually at home or in groups or run their own business. The association and its braches will call for donations to buy bakery facilities," says the teacher.

To a bakery

Thu Han Bakery is the first cake business run by Dien Khanh District Association for the Disabled in Go Me Village, Suoi Tien Commune. In spite of mobility difficulty due to her disabled legs, the owner is very active and enthusiastic working with bakers.

Phan Thi Thu says in late 2018, Dinh Cong Thanh, Chairman of Dien Khanh District Association for the disabled invited some members of Suoi Tien branch to attend the 3-month pastry class for the disabled. Her home becomes a classroom for 5 learners, all with slight impairment. They all do the packaging and marketing. Her business location has improved thanks to the Chairman’s call for donation.

Norwegian Build Aid organization has sponsored a working place, 50m2, worth VND235 million and some cake making tools and equipment such as ovens, egg whisks and materials for making cakes. Now, her bakery can make all kinds of cakes, including butter cream puffs, cookies and pizzas. The work has brought happiness as well as some earning, VND1-2 million/month, to the disabled.

According to Dinh Cong Thanh, the association has opened 2 pastry classes for 27 people with slight impairment. The first class was held by Khanh Hoa Center for Social Service, granting certificates to 15 people; and the 2nd class with 12 learners held by Dien Khanh Vocational School. Apart from vocational training, the association has also called for donations to the business. The first bakery has been completed in Suoi Tien. The association is going to call for sponsorship for the second one in Dien Phu. To tackle consumer problems for the business, the association will continue promoting the products and marketing to call for consumption support from organizations and individuals.
