Besides investment in infrastructures to improve the treatment quality, Khanh Hoa General Hospital has taken steps to become more environmentally friendly and sustainable under the Ministry of Health's plan on creating green, clean and beautiful environment in health facilities to help patients feel less anxious and overwhelmed about their diseases and treatment
For the past 3 months, Khanh Hoa General Hospital has appeared in an appealing look with wall paintings of peaceful villages, ponds of lotus flowers, meandering paths, ancient houses and shady bamboo trees together with clocks made from recycled wheels, wooden swings and star lanterns. Reportedly, trees have covered up 30% of the hospital space. Most of the paths have been asphalted and more than 100 stone benches have been put in many places in the hospital. All the decoration and gardens have turned out to create fresh and relaxing atmosphere and thus bring medical benefits to patients.

Nguyen Thi Thao, Ninh Hiep Ward, Ninh Hoa Town says, “The wall paintings are impressive, giving senses of peacefulness and tranquility. Besides, the patients’ rooms are kept clean. A cool and shady environment can be soothing."
Apart from creating more green space, Khanh Hoa General Hospital has focused on improving the hygiene of the hospital environment to assure more comfort and relaxing feelings. Hospital room surface disinfection is performed at least twice a day. In addition, some 1,000 bottles of disinfectants are available along corridors or in patient rooms for use. Especially, rooms in the pediatrics ward are adorned with vibrant colors and cute drawings which would help to bring joy and fun to young patients.
“The hospital waiting room has many paintings of cute animals, the bright sun, nice grass and colorful flowers. My child loves to be out here,” says Tran Hanh Dung, Phuoc Long Ward, Nha Trang City.
According to Dr. Phan Huu Chinh, Director of Khanh Hoa General Hospital, peaceful mind helps healing. Therefore, the hospital has focused on keeping the hospital clean, green and beautiful. This is also an approach to improve the hospital operation. In addition, the leader of the hospital also takes various measures to reduce plastic waste. In the coming time, we will build a recycled park using old tires and other kinds of waste. A miniature landscape decorated with apricot and daisy blossoms, square glutinous rice cakes and parallel sentences will be created inside the hospital space to create the traditional festive atmosphere for patients remaining at the hospital during the Tet.
Khanh Hoa General Hospital provides examination and treatment for nearly 4,000 patient arrivals everyday. As the highest health facility in the province, Khanh Hoa General Hospital is obviously facing patient overload. Promoting green space and improving treatment quality are among measures to raise patient satisfaction. In 2014, patient satisfaction index has increased to 90% from 70% in 2014.
