After over one-month prevalence of the Decree No. 100/2019/ND-CP on administrative sanctions for road traffic and rail transport violations and the drunk-driving inspection, there has been some improvements in traffic safety.

Traffic safety improvements

According to the leader of Nha Trang City Public Security’s Traffic and Security team, after 1 month on January 1-31, of the application of the Decree No. 100/2019/ND-CP on administrative sanctions for road traffic and rail transport violations and the Law on prevention and control of harms of alcohol and beer, 12 inspections have been conducted on drivers of 1,036 vehicles, including 675 cars. 4 out of 62 cases of alcohol-related traffic violations have been given the highest penalty level (VND35 million fine and driving license revoked for 23 months).

Commander Le Buu Tho, Deputy Head of Nha Trang City Public Security’s Traffic and Security team, after a month of the application, much of the improvement in traffic safety has been driven. In January, 6 traffic accidents occurred, killing 6 people. After inspection, none of  the accidents were not related to drunk driving violation.

Drunk-driving inspection continues

The use of breath analyzers in the Covid-19 epidemic brings a worry to many people that coronavirus may be spread via breathalyzers. However, the police have strictly followed the guidance of the Ministry of Public Security and Ministry of Health in assuring hygiene and safety for all. Specifically, all police corps wear masks, gloves and breathalyzers are properly sterilized. Breathalyzer blow tubes are used only once and then are properly collected and disposed.

Drivers’ awareness and responsibility for safe driving have been raised. When planning on drinking, they take a bus, a taxi or ride-sharing service, or get a lift with a non-drinking designated driver. These are among big changes in drivers’ behavior.

In the coming time, traffic inspection will be boosted, especially on drunk driving law violation in order to prevent drunk driving and thus reduce traffic accident risks, according to Commander Le Buu Tho.
