The COVID-19 has changed how we work, learn and play. Besides caring more for health, avoiding crowds, many have changed their entertainment habits, adapting lives to deal with the pandemic.

Most locals start to buy food for several days to reduce shopping time. More people go to supermarkets instead of open-air markets. “Food at supermarkets is already packaged, so I feel it’s convenient and quick to choose from. Hand sanitizers are available at the entrance and inside supermarkets for use, so I feel safer,” says a resident named Xuan Vy in Phuong Son Ward, Nha Trang City.

She used to get up early to take her children out for breakfast and then to school. Now she can get up later and prepare breakfast at home. Her eldest daughter also has more time helping with the cooking and thus they have more time together and become emotionally closer.

Many locals shop at supermarkets instead of markets during non-rush hours.

Under the Prime Minister’s Instruction against covid-19, Khanh Hoa People's Committee has directed the implementation of measures on social distancing from March 28 to April 15, service businesses are ordered to temporarily close, except the businesses in essential products or services such as food, foodstuff, medicines, etc. Instead of hanging out, guys go straight home after work and spend dinner time with families.

Many have changed their entertainment habits. Nguyen Duy Anh, Vinh Diem Trung Urban Area, Nha Trang City, has stopped his hobby of going to the cinema at Big C Supermarket at weekends. They would like to watch films on Netflix instead. “I search for comedies that we all can see together. We feel more attached with each other these days,” he says.

Many young people have turned to reading books or watching films at home instead of being outdoors. Many have broken their habit of traveling or going on a picnic at weekends and on holidays.

“Keeping life simple, adapting lives to deal with the changes the pandemic is having on homes, I have ordered books on Tiki.vn, and downloaded some more books for my Kindle eBooks. During this time, I find that I have missed some simple interests and joys such as growing plants on the balcony. Watching beautiful flowers is also great joy,” says Ha Trang, Phuoc Tan Ward, Nha Trang City.

COVID-19 has also affected those working in telecommunications and entertainment industries. A MC says, with events cancelled from late February, she mostly doesn’t have income. She has to cut back on buying new clothes and cosmetics to get through the hard time. With spa centers and gyms closed, she starts doing yoga and jogging along the beach in the evening.

Similarly, Tran Thai Huy working in telecommunications industry has started doing workout at home in his yard as his gym has shut down due to COVID-19. He is still single and usually eats out. However, theses days, he begins going shopping and cooking at home. “I must be cautious due to the hike in Covid-19 infected and deaths. After a period cooking at home, my cooking skills have improved.”

During the unprecedented outbreak, many have adapted to a simple life with a different life experience, getting rid of bad habits and adopting good ones, including washing hands regularly and wearing face masks when going out.
