The National Institute of Hygiene & Epidemiology has just issued a proposal to Khanh Hoa People’s Committee a document to expand the Wolbachia-infected mosquito release in Nha Trang City, period 2020 - 2022.
Accordingly, the release expansion is in Nha Trang city inner wards of Vinh Hoa, Vinh Hai, Vinh Phuoc, Vinh Tho, Ngoc Hiep, Van Thang, Van Thanh, Phuong Son, Phuong Sai, Phuoc Tan, Phuoc Hai, Phuoc Hoa, Phuoc Long, Vinh Nguyen and Vinh Truong. Wolbachia carrying mosquitoes are expected to be released in populated areas.
Reportedly, under the Eliminate Dengue Vietnam Project, the National Institute of Hygiene & Epidemiology has released bacterium Wolbachia carrying mosquitoes in 8 villages of Vinh Luong Commune and on Tri Nguyen Island, Nha Trang City.
The Wolbachia method has shown encouraging results in dengue transmission reduction in the locality.
