Khanh Hoa Provincial People’s Committee has just issued a document to direct relevant departments and agencies to discuss with SUNWON Service & Trading Company, Ltd. about funding the installment of smart public toilets equipped with technology 4.0 in Nha Trang City. This public participation funding is essential as solution to insufficient public toilets in Nha Trang City.

Lack of publicly available restrooms

There are currently 19 public toilets distributed mainly along the beach park on Tran Phu Street and Pham Van Dong Street. Some are damaged due to long term use and poor maintenance. There are no public bathroom facilities on many main streets and in some city parks and parks in new urban areas. 66 main streets with boundaries of 20m or more still have no public restrooms. Around 100 public restrooms are needed to meet demand of locals and tourists in the city. Le Van Khanh, a resident in Van Thang Ward says there should be more public toilets in beach parks, especially near Tran Phu Bridge to provide convenient public amenity and assure environmental hygiene.

Various measures have been taken by local authorities to install more public restrooms in Nha Trang City; however, there are still not enough for use. In a scheme on community restrooms, Nha Trang City has mobilized businesses, restaurants and hotels to expand their restroom access to the public.

Some hotels such as Nha Trang Palace, Star City, Rigel, Yasaka-Saigon-Nhatrang, Stella Maria Nha Trang, Muong Thanh Luxury, etc have signed agreements to take part in the community restroom scheme. However, the number of hotels and restaurants participating in the scheme is still limited. Hotels or restaurants with restrooms open to the public are still unknown to many locals and tourists.

Free installment of restrooms

Khanh Hoa People’s Committee has directed Khanh Hoa Department of Natural Resources & Environment to preside over and cooperate with Khanh Hoa Department of Construction, Department of Transportation, Nha Trang City People’s Committee and relevant agencies to work with SUNWON Service & Trading Company, Ltd. to implement the scheme, report results and provide Khanh Hoa People’s Committee with consultancy within jurisdiction before June 30, 2020.

SUNWON Service & Trading Company, Ltd. has proposed installing 20 public smart restrooms with 4.0 technology free of charge in Nha Trang City as a solution to the lack of public restrooms. Such smart public restrooms are in use in the U.S.A, England, France, Japan and so on, contributing to creating smart urban environment.

Besides funding smart public restrooms, SUNWON Service & Trading Company, Ltd. will install more automated dispensers of rice, fish sauce, cooking oil, milk and instant noodles for free to help those in need. Each family will be granted a gift code, following the list by Nha Trang City authority. When in need, they just enter their gift codes and receive the necessaries.

SUNWON Service & Trading Company, Ltd. has installed free smart public restrooms in some provinces and cities, namely Bac Ninh, Hanoi, Hue, Dong Nai, Ho Chi Minh City, etc. “The total area of each restroom is about 15m2, including a 10m2 lobby and a 5m2 toilet. When the restrooms are put into use, electricity, water, operation and maintenance fees will be paid by the company. The total cost of installing a restroom is about VND1 billion. The goal is for the sake of the community and the environment towards creating a smart city. Therefore, we hope local authorities and agencies at all levels will create favorable conditions for the installment of such public restrooms in Nha Trang City,” said Nguyen Hoang Phong, Director of the project on smart public toilets, SUNWON Trading and Service Co., Ltd.
