Satisfactory achievements in developing learning families and communities have been gained in Khanh Hoa Province over 5 years of implementation of the Government’s Project on building a learning society, period 2015-2020.

Inspiring examples for learning

Bo Bo Thi Bong, Hap Cuong Quarter, To Hap Town, Khanh Son District has an outstanding family for learning. Her husband died over 10 years ago, leaving her behind with the burden of taking care of 5 children. Her 5 children have grown up and completed education at universities or colleges and found good jobs in their hometown of Khanh Son.

Learning models are required to be diversified for a learning society.

Orphaned at young age, Luong Tuyen in Tan Quang Village, Ninh Quang Commune, Ninh Hoa Town couldn’t get schooling. Growing up, he started with self-learning while working, got a high school graduation certificate at the age of 33, and continued to earn Bachelor of Laws at 63 and then an M.A at 70. Now, in spite of old age, 73, he is still eager for learning to widen his knowledge to expand production and improve his family’s living standard. Following his good example, his 4 children have finished university education and continued with postgraduate studies.

Studious families have been honored for their tradition of studiousness, inspiring younger generations to learn and contribute to the society. Good examples include the families of Ho, Nguyen Phuoc in the province; Pham in Thuy Trieu, Cuu Loi, Cam Lam District; The Mau in Son Trung Commune, Khanh Son District; the Le family in Tay Village, Song Cau Commune, Khanh Vinh District; the Vo in Dai Lanh Commune, Van Ninh District; the Ngo in Dien Phu Commune, Dien Khanh District; and the Tran Duc in Ninh Phu Commune, Ninh Hoa Town.

The learning and talent promotion campaign has achieved practical achievements. that the campaign on raising piggy banks for study promotion has been implemented in all branches. Thanks to the fund, more than 5,000 students have received scholarships and grants totaling more than VND300 million in the past 5 years. In addition, the ward community learning center organizes more than 70 training classes each year, says Nguyen Thi Hong Vinh, Chairman of People's Committee of Van Thanh Ward, Chairman of the Ward Study Promotion Association.

Encouraging learners of all ages

At present, 235,095 families are recognized as studious families, accounting for 71%; 162 as studious kins, making up 67%; 905 villages and quarters as "learning communities", accounting for more than 90%; and 664 agencies and schools as "learning units", accounting for 69%. From 2015 to 2019, the study promotion fund at all levels awarded nearly 253,100 scholarships and rewards totaling more than VND56.2 billion. The provincial budget has provided nearly VND4 billion to implement Project 281 from 2015 to 2020, etc.

Khanh Hoa is among provinces with the learning promotion associations expanding widely. The association has developed with a total of nearly 204,000 members for over the past 5 years, creating a foundation for the promotion of lifelong learning communities, society, agencies, businesses, schools, armed forces, villages and families. In addition, the Study Encouragement & Talent Promotion Fund at all levels has proactively mobilized many individuals and businesses to support and motivate many needy students and teachers to overcome difficulties and challenges and flourish.

It is necessary to create life-long learning opportunities for all citizens for a learning society. In the coming time, the Provincial Study Promotion Association will continue strengthening study promotion associations at all levels; developing the Study Promotion Fund; providing counseling related to priority policies, and encouraging learning among adults. Centers of community learning, sports and culture will be established in communes and wards to develop new learning models such as "learning citizen", "learning city", "learning province", etc, according to Nguyen Viet Dan, Chairman of the Provincial Study Promotion Association.
