I thought of quitting school to help my younger sibling. Living from hand to mouth, I don’t think my family can afford my tuition. Receiving the scholarship, I am so happy as it is such an encouragement to me to overcome the financial hardship and continue my schooling.”

Nguyen Truong Van Quy, Vinh Ngoc Primary School, Nha Trang City is in a severely disadvantaged situation. His dad is sick for many years, leaving the family burden on his mom. Thanks to the support and help from his relatives, neighbors and local authority, he receives scholarships from the Holt every year and regards the help a great encouragement for his further effort in study.

“After school, he helps me take care of his father and do housework so that I can have more time to work and earn money. In spite of hardship, he tries his best in order not to drop out of school. I am so grateful for the Center for Social Work - Children Protection Fund and the Holt for the great concern and financial assistance for my son to cover his tuition”, said his mother named Truong Thi Bich Thuy.

In order to prevent school drop-outs due to financial hardship, the Center has maintained good relationships with domestic and foreign social charity organizations, providing a link to help vulnerable children over the past years; mobilized many businesses and benefactors to contribute to the construction of the Center for Social Work - Children Protection Fund.

Through the fund, the center has granted scholarships to poor children, children of policy beneficiaries; and gave gifts to hundreds of orphaned, poor and vulnerable children and those affected by Agent Orange; organized many practical activities to provide reliable support mentally and physically for children. This year, through the Child Care Project sponsored by the Holt, the center has awarded scholarships to 161 students, including 50 in Nha Trang, 24 in Cam Ranh, 36 in Dien Khanh, 35 in Cam Lam and 16 in Van Ninh. Each scholarship is worth VND300,00/month/child during the 9 months of the school year 2020-2021, according to Tran Hiep, Director of the Center for Social Work - Children Protection Fund.

Since the beginning of the year, the Holt has provided VND525 million through sub-projects on livelihood assistance for 26 families with children in need; nutrition and education for 4 severely disadvantaged children in the community; single mother support with prenatal care, medical care and other essentials for their newborn babies for 16 women.

“Child care activities have been implemented effectively and practically in recent years thanks to the concern and support from the Party Committees and authorities, contributing to assisting and motivating those in disadvanatged situations to overcome difficulties. We hope in the coming time, agencies, organizations, businesses and donors will continue providing spiritual and material assistance to help vulnerable children in the province,” said Hiep.
