Etau storm was 180km north of Southwest Cay with maximum sustained wind speeds at level 8 and the gust at level 10 at 4pm on November 9. The storm is forecast to head to the coast of Phu Yen – Ninh Thuan, 120km to the east with maximum sustained wind speeds at level 9 and the gust at level 11 and then weaken into a tropical depression, according to the Southern & Central Centre for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting.
 
Heavy rain at 200-400mm is expected in the provinces from Quang Tri to Northern Khanh Hoa; 100-200mm from Quang Binh to Southern Khanh Hoa from the afternoon of November 9 to November 12.
 
Khanh Hoa Provincial People’s Committee issued an official telegram on the storm response preparedness on November 8 with a sea ban imposed from 6pm on October 27 until the storm is over.
 
Fishermen on aquaculture farms and vessels are guided to urgently get ashore; aquaculture farms and vessels are required to get anchored in safe shelters until the storm subsidies. Local authorities and relevant departments and agencies are required to check critical areas and take storm response measures to assure safety in case of strong wind, flooding and landslide.
