Khanh Hoa Provincial People’s Committee and Khanh Hoa Department of Health held a ceremony on July 2 to see off a medical mission to help pandemic control in Phu Yen Province. Present at the event was Dinh Van Thieu, Vice-Chairman of Khanh Hoa Provincial People’s Committee.

Receiving a small gift with encouragement from the hospital leader, Dr. Tran Vu Hoang (1995), Department of Cardiology, Khanh Hoa General Hospital said, “On June 26, receiving a decision to join the medical mission to Phu Yen to help the pandemic control, I felt very proud and touched. Earlier, I joined the treatment of patients suspected with Covid-19 in the isolation area of the hospital twice, so I can have some experience and feel secure. I am going to help with the Covid-19 treatment in Phu Yen makeshift hospital. We will try our best to assist the treatment there.”

All the members from Khanh Hoa Medical College shared the same feelings of pride and determination when joining the mission. Nguyen Thi Nam Trieu, 1 of 20 students joining the Khanh Hoa mission to Phu Yen said, “Phu Yen is hard hit by the pandemic with many new cases, so I would like to join the help. We all feel proud to be able to join the effort to curb the pandemic in Phu Yen. On July 1, we were trained how to use personal protective equipment, take samples for testing and conduct epidemiological investigation, so we are very confident and determined to give our best support to Phu Yen.”
 
Involved in taking samples and testing for thousands of patients and suspected cases for nearly 2 years, Bachelor Vo Thi Kim Oanh, Faculty of Environmental Health - School Health under Khanh Hoa Center for Disease Control is very proud to be one of the members of the mission. With the experience gained, she hopes she will be able to help Phu Yen to successfully stamp out the epidemic.
 
"The mission includes doctors specialized in testing, preventive health, epidemiological investigation, etc. We hope all members in the mission with their capacities and willingness will help Phu Yen combat the pandemic soon," said Ton That Toan.

The mission is determined to help control Covid-19 outbreak in Phu Yen

 

 
To provide support for other provinces when required 
 
Bui Xuan Minh, Director of the Provincial Department of Health said Phu Yen has seen the hike in Covid-19 cases recently. Under the guidance of Khanh Hoa Provincial People’s Committee, Khanh Hoa Department of Health has cooperated with relevant agencies and departments to mobilize human and material resources to help Phu Yen. This is the first provincial medical trip to help control Covid-19 outbreak in Phu Yen in particular and the nation in general. They are all experienced in treatment and protective care. Khanh Hoa is willing to give assistance to any provinces at high-risk of the outbreak.
 
Together with the provincial medical mission, on June 25, Pasteur Nha Trang Institute sent a mission with  8 members to help Phu Yen with the Covid-19 control, providing Covid-19 prevention and control counseling; support in testing, operation of community Covid-19 teams, epidemiological investigation, contact tracing; supply of chemicals, biological products, consumables for testing, etc. This is the fourth support mission to provinces and cities since the occurrence of the outbreak. The mission has developed SARS-CoV-2 confirmatory testing labs at Phu Yen Center for Disease Control; provided SARS-CoV-2 testing; and lent Realtime RT-PCR systems, automatic extraction machines centrifugal machine, heaters, Micropipette, PCR cabinets and provided chemicals, biological products, consumables for testing 2,000 samples. The institute has founded 6 testing teams meeting the support for the control of Covid-19 outbreak when required by the Ministry of Health, according to PhD. Do Thai Hung, Director of Pasteur Nha Trang Institute.
 
Reportedly, on June 30, the Minister of Health Nguyen Thanh Long had decision to found a Covid-19 prevention and control team with 18 member to help Phu Yen Province. The team is led by PhD and Dr. Do Thai Hung, Director of Pasteur Nha Trang Institute and other members are from Pasteur Nha Trang Institute and Hue Central Hospital.

The provincial medical mission to Phu Yen includes 30 members led by Dr. Ton That Toan, Deputy Director of Khanh Hoa Center for Disease Control. They are from Khanh Hoa Center for Disease Control (4 members), Khanh Hoa General Hospital (5 doctors) and Khanh Hoa Medical College (21 lecturers and students).

Together with the workforce support, Khanh Hoa Province also provided medical equipment and chemicals, containing 20,000 four-layer face masks, 2,000 N95 face masks, 2,000 sets of personal protective clothing, 2,000 bottles of hand sanitizer, etc. in the fight against Covid-19 in Phu Yen. Some groups and clubs offered 1,000 protective goggles to the province at the see-off ceremony.
