Government's rice assistance reaching people infected by Covid-19

Khanh Hoa Department of Labor, War Invalids & Social Affairs has cooperated with the Department of National Reserves of the South Central region to allocate rice under the Government’s Covid-19 relief scheme to localities. The rice has reached out to those in need. 
 
Helping the poor to stabilize lives 
 
On August 28, Nha Trang City received more than 361 tons of rice supported by the Government to help 940 poor people, 11,791 marginally poor  and 11,249 others struggling due to the impacts of Covid-19. Wards and communes in the city have begun the rice distribution as soon as it arrived.

Nguyen Thi Keo, Quarter 2 Truong Son Ward, Vinh Truong Ward, Nha Trang City is offered 135kg of rice for her family of 9 suffering from financial hardship. Her husband has been bedridden for many years after a stroke. She used to earn VND30,000 from working for hire at a fishing port. Her children have quitted school early to help with the income earning. In recent weeks, her family has lived on the food provided by local localities and agencies. Her family is so happy to receive such assistance from the Government.
 
343.8 tons of rice assistance came to Khanh Vinh District on August 29. 18 tons of rice has been brought directly to residents’ homes in Khanh Nam Commune. “The rice helps feed my family for a couple of months during the pandemic,” said Pi Nang Huynh, A Xay Village.
 
According to Nha Trang City Division of Labor, War Invalids & Social Affairs, the city has hired cars for rice transportation to speed up the delivery to communes and wards. Localities are to divide, pack and then deliver the gifts of rice directly to homes, ensuring the assistance goes where it is most needed, especially those in "red zones" and "orange zones". The rice distribution to other areas is also being urgently implemented to reach those in need.

According to Ta Hong Quang, Director of Khanh Hoa Department of Labor, War Invalids & Social Affairs, the department has requested localities to make a list of beneficiaries and closely coordinated with the Department of National Reserves of the South Central region to deliver rice to the needy residents as planned. The rice distribution must ensure fairness, publicity and transparency in compliance with epidemic prevention and control measures. The distribution is scheduled to be complete before September 2.
 
The Department of National Reserves of the South Central region has urgently completed procedures to provide rice assistance for localities pursuant to the Prime Minister’s decision. The unit has cooperated closely with the Department of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs to deliver more than 2,000 tons of rice to localities within 5 days. The rice is of IR50404 variety stocked in 2020. Localities are asked to report any problems related to the rice (if any) for exchange to ensure the Covid-19 relief soon reaches out to those in need, according to Vu Duc Nghi, Head of the Department of National Reserves of the South Central Region.
 

Ta Hong Quang, Director of Khanh Hoa Department of Labor, War Invalids & Social Affairs: This time, the Government provides Khanh Hoa with over 20,000 tons of rice relief allocated to 8 districts and towns to help 4 pandemic-hit groups, including the poor, the marginally poor, policy beneficiaries and others struggling due to Covid-19 in the province. Each person is offered 15kg/ month. 361.2 tons of rice is allocated to Nha Trang City, 189.6 tons to Cam Ranh City, 296.4 tons to Ninh Hoa Town, 222.6 tons to Van Ninh District, 114.81 tons to Dien Khanh District, 267.3 tons to Cam Lam District, 343.8 tons to Khanh Vinh District and 204.3 tons to Khanh Son District.
