The tough time amid the Covid-19 pandemic has triggered an outpouring of generosity and kindness in the community. Many have joined the local authorities’ effort to share financial burdens by providing much assistance for families struggling during the pandemic outbreak in Van Thang Ward, Nha Trang City.

78-year-old Nguyen Thi Lac, Van Binh 2 Quarter, Van Thang Ward, Nha Trang City said, “All of my 3 children are suffering from mental disorder and thus unable to work. Since my husband’s death, I have become the only bread-winner with the burden of family finance and health care for my sick children. I used to earn money from retailed sales. However, the market has been shut since the coronavirus wave. We are living on the social allowance of my 3 children (VND450,000/person). The Fatherland Front, organizations and sponsors have given us rice, noodles, cooking oil, fish sauce, meat, fish, vegetables, etc. We are so grateful and glad that we still have enough food through the hard time.”

Another resident named Nguyen Thi Huong living in the same quarter of Van Binh 2 has also received aid containing food and other necessities from the Fatherland Front and other sponsors. There are 6 people in her family and they are all self-employed. Since the coronavirus wave, all her family members have lost work, thus facing financial difficulties. Happily, they have received the aid during the tough time. “Most struggling families like us have received assistance during the stay-at-home order. We are looking forward to returning to the normal life and getting back to work to earn money when the pandemic is under control,” she said.

Many people have joined hands to help people suffering from financial hardship by practical activities such as offering bread, rice, fruits, vegetables and other food stuff. Thai Thi Hoai, Sinh Trung Street, Van Thanh Ward, Nha Trang City has put a bread case in her store to deliver free bread to poor and vulnerable people to help them through the tough time due to the pandemic.

Since the resurgence of Covid-19, her store has been shut to prevent the spread of the virus. She and her husband have joined the Fatherland Front of Van Thanh Ward, Van Thang Ward and residential quarters to donate rice, fruits, vegetables, instant noodles, etc. to disadvantaged people and those in blockaded areas. They themselves have also prepared breakfast portions to deliver to Covid-19 check-points in Van Thanh Ward.

In addition, they offer rice to lonely and vulnerable older people in some wards every month. “The Covid-19 outbreak has taken a toll on everyone’s lives, especially the poor and the vulnerable. These include those with little or no assets or savings to fall back on, living  hand to mouth such as street sellers, scrap metal collectors, masonry helpers, etc. Our donation is not much but really encouragement to help them overcome difficulties. I can’t remember how many gifts I have offered and how much they cost. Simply, we are willing and ready to  give help whenever it is needed. We have also ordered vegetables from 2 farms in Vinh Thai Commune to ensure sufficient supplies for the donation. Besides, we also have 5-7 quintals of rice stockpiled to help those in need,” added Thai Thi Hoai.

Furthermore, Van Thang Ward has also received much support from many others. They include Ly Thi Bich at 67 Ha Thanh giving 64 gifts worth VND200,000 each  to struggling households in To 2 Van Trung; Nguyen Thi Thanh Van at 25/32 Ha Thanh giving nearly 500kg of green gourd to 200 households through the Ward Fatherland Front; Hung Huyen on 2-4 Street donating 50 gifts to the needy, etc.

Van Thang Ward Fatherland Front has received much contribution from organizations, businesses, the Fatherland Front at all levels, local authorities as well as individuals sponsoring thousands of gifs, containing necessities, offered to needy families, tenants and those in lockdown areas. The acts of kindness have extended in the community, contributing to promoting solidarity and mutual support in the midst of Covid-19 crisis, said Nguyen Thi Cam Nhung, Chairman of Van Thang Ward Fatherland Front.
