Khanh Hoa Provincial People's Committee has just sent a document to the Prime Minister for the approval of a new urban master planning in Cam Lam District. Accordingly, the Provincial People's Committee proposed developing a new urban area in Cam Lam District and part of Cam Ranh City with a population size equivalent to that of a type I urban area.
Favorable conditions to grow into aerotropolis combined with tourism and services
Cam Lam District is located between the two cities of Cam Ranh and Nha Trang with a coastline of 13km. Therefore, Cam Lam plays an important role in connecting urban centers, including Nha Trang, Dien Khanh and Cam Ranh, forming a diverse urban structure, each with its own specific characteristics, combining strengths for socio-economic development. This is considered as a basis for forming a frame urban system for Khanh Hoa urban area in the future, ensuring the connection, synchronization and effective exploitation of regional and inter-city infrastructures. This area in under planning for an aerotropolis and a center of finance, eco-tourism and other industries of the region and the province.
According to the report of the Department of Construction, Cam Lam District has a diversity of terrain with hills, plains, lagoons, coastal sandy beaches and the sea. The terrain gradually lowers from the west to the east and from the north to the south, mostly covered with high mountains, low mountains, plains and gentle hills, favorable for urban development and tourism.

Especially, the area is near Cam Ranh International Airport and Cam Ranh Port with arterial national routes passing through. In addition, Cam Lam also has the Northern Cam Ranh peninsula tourist area with 41 famous tourist and resort projects, attracting a large number of international tourists. The location of Cam Lam District is an important traffic joint of the Southern Central region and Central Highlands. Regarding the regional traffic joint, Cam Lam is close to the international maritime route, has a seaport system linked with important traffic intersections of national roads, waterways and airways, etc.
Reportedly, Cam Lam has Hon Ba Mount at the height of 1,500m with a cool climate and various species of rare plants, favorable for the development of eco-tourism and mountaineering. Besides, the 13km coastline includes 10km in Bai Dai with many favorable conditions for ultimate relaxing vacations. Regarding industrial development, the district has Suoi Dau Industrial Zone with existing 41 businesses, including 18 foreign ones. With the above potentials, Cam Lam District has sufficient conditions to grow into an aerotropolis combining eco-tourism and services, connecting with other urban areas in the province.
Planning must be one step ahead
In order to effectively promote the potentials and develop Cam Lam District, Cam Ranh City and Cam Ranh International Airport in the future, the Standing Committee of the Provincial Party Committee has worked with the Standing Board of the Cam Lam District Party Committee, reaching a consensus on adjusting the goals of developing Cam Lam District towards a modern, ecological and internationally connected aerotropolis.
The Provincial Standing Party Committee issued Notice No. 208 agreeing in principle making a new urban master planning in Cam Lam District and part of Cam Ranh City on October 30. Therefore, the Provincial People's Committee proposed that the Prime Minister would consider the approval of a new urban master planning in Cam Lam District. Accordingly, the Provincial People's Committee proposed developing a new urban area in Cam Lam District and part of Cam Ranh City with a population size equivalent to that of a type I urban area as a basis for socio-economic development and investment appeal and supplementing it into the provincial planning.
As "planning must be one step ahead" stated in Resolution No. 119 dated September 27 by the Government and legal regulations on planning, the new urban master planning if approved by the Prime Minister will include the communes, wards and towns of Cam Tan, Cam Hoa, Cam Hiep Bac, Cam Hiep Nam, Cam Thanh Bac, Cam An Bac, Cam An Nam, Suoi Tan, Cam Hai Dong, Cam Hai Tay, Cam Duc, Cam Nghia and Cam Thanh Nam. In order to speed up the planning process, the Provincial People's Committee has also asked for permission to make the general planning tasks and planning project which will be sent to the Ministry of Construction for appraisal and submitted to the Prime Minister for approval.
