Khanh Hoa has seen much improvement in road safety, contributing to easing gridlock and raising  compliance with the traffic law thanks to comprehensive measures since 2019.

Comprehensive measures

In 2019, the Government promugated Resolution No.12 on ensuring road safety and preventing traffic congestions in the period 2019 - 2021. In order to effectively implement this resolution, the Provincial Traffic Safety Committee has developed annual plans to ensure traffic safety considered as a basis for local authorities, the People's Committees of districts and towns to implement specific tasks.

According to Pham Van Trong, Deputy Chief in charge of the Office of the Provincial Traffic Safety Committeet, to meet the goal of reducing road crash and facilitating travel, all transport problems have been handled by local agencies in consultation with the Provincial People's Committee. The localities regularly check sites at high risk of traffic accidents; and monthly report assessment and analysis of traffic issues and propose solutions to competent agencies.

Besides propaganda to raise public awareness of road safety, local authorities have boosted patrol and inspection to deal with traffic law offence. 24/24 patrol has been maintained on major roads to prevent illegal racing and traffic congestion.

In addition, to effectively tackle and prevent traffic jam in Nha Trang City, the province has implemented on-street car parking fee collection on 4 streets since early 2019; and local authorities have developed a proper plan for traffic control with restriction of vehicles on some streets during rush hours; and ban on vehicles with 29 seats and more from entering into the city center.

Towards smart traffic planning

Road safety has improved across the province and the compliance with the traffic safety law has been raised over the past 3 years. However, there are some concerns related to road conditions, traffic lights, etc. that need to be solved to meet urban growth needs.

To assure traffic safety in the coming time, the Provincial Traffic Safety Committee has proposed some specific solutions, focusing on investment in traffic infrastructures with priority given to upgrading and widening  provincial roads; constructing a public transport operation center to manage and operate the entire transport system in the province by smart technologies. Local authorities will boost patrols to strengthen control and handle traffic safety offence, ensuring pandemic control and flexible adaptation to the Covid-19 situation; focusing on control on overload, drunk-driving, speeding, etc. In addition, localities continue promoting propaganda to raise public awareness and improve compliance with the traffic law and Covid-19 prevention and control regulations, according to Nguyen Van Dan, Director of Khanh Hoa Department of Transportation, Deputy Chief of the Provincial Traffic Safety Committee.
