The philanthropic model called “Loving leaves" enhancing the moral "The good leaves protect the worn-out leaves" was developed by Nha Trang City Women’s Union in 2020 in an effort to keep disadvantaged children remain on track to complete their education. The model has gained some initial satisfactory results.

Reaching out to those in need

Nha Trang City Women’s Union has provided aid, VND300,000-800,000 each, for orphans and vulnerable kids. Phuoc Long Ward Women’s Association is among affiliations having effectively implemented the model. The Women’s Association has provided aid totaling over VND50 million to 12 needy members’ children. The aid was mobilized from the union cadres, members and other donors, said Le Thi Hoang Nga, Chairperson of Phuoc Long Ward Women’s Union.

Nguyen Nha Uyen, mother of a fifth-grader named Nguyen Hoang Yen at Phuoc Long 2 Primary School in Quarter Phuoc Trung 1 said her husband died of a severe disease. Their life is facing great financial hardship. Thanks to the Women’s Association, the child receives a scholarship worth VND300,000/month together with some necessities for her family. The valuable assistance has empowered her child to access learning opportunities.

Vinh Nguyen Ward Women’s Association has expanded the model to all branches in an effort to reach out to kids in need. The model is being developed at the Women’s Associations of Tay Son 2 and Tay Hai 1, providing assistance worth nearly VND43 million in 2021 for 2 double orphans, said Mai Do Thi Phuoc Chau, Chairperson of Vinh Nguyen Ward Women’s Association.

Expanding widely

According to Dinh Thi Hang Nga, Chairperson of Nha Trang City Women’s Union said the aid and encouragement from sponsors and members have helped prevent many school-dropouts-outs. Textbooks, notebooks, pens and clothes have been offered to the needy, inspiring them to make further effort in study.

Since 2020, 53 associations have registered to join the charity model, giving 150 gifts of financial support (VND300,000 in cash), rice (10kg/month) and study expenses totaling nearly VND200 million; offering necessities to 27,528 disadvantaged members and 5,600 notebooks to poor students totaling over VND275 million.

“In the coming time, the association will continue propagating the humanitarian meaning of the model in order to raise officials and members’ awareness and sense of responsibility and inspire actions; as well as seek donations to help orphans in difficult circumstances, and those affected by epidemics and natural disasters," added Dinh Thi Hang Nga.
