The Lunar New Year 2022 is almost upon us. Many fun activities are taking place to celebrate the coming festive season for the vulnerable and those in special circumstances at social service facilities in Khanh Hoa Province.
Cozy New Year atmosphere
On January 25, the old age home at Khanh Hoa Social Support Center was in the bustle of preparing ingredients, rice, green beans, pork and so on for making Vietnamese traditional rice cakes for Tet. 75-year-old Hoang Thi Thuy said, “I was so excited that I got up at 5am to prepare everything for wrapping cakes. I have been here for 15 years. The center organizes meaningful Lunar New Year activities every year. Thanks to the center, I feel cozy and warm and less lonely whenever Tet comes.”
The Lunar New Year meal was well prepared with many dishes, especially traditional glutinous rice cakes, spring rolls and pickled leeks. The Lunar Lew Year program continued with musical shows and folk games at night.

Nguyen Thi Ngoc Nguyen, an orphan said, “The center is like my home. I receive good care and love from the people here. On the New Year’s Day, besides delicious food, we play many fun games such as bamboo dance, can toss, hoop throwing, rope skipping, etc.”
The center has made plans for the Lunar New Year celebration, providing sufficient food and organizing amusement activities to create a warm and festive atmosphere for those living at the center. The meals during the Lunar New Year’s Day must have balanced nutrition with traditional Vietnamese dishes, according to Dang Thi Thuy Tien, Director of Khanh Hoa Social Support Center.
Festive celebration and care for the vulnerable
The Social Support Center for the care and rehabilitation of people with mental disorders in the province is organizing many meaningful spring festive activities. The center is decorated with colorful lights and flowers. An outdoor year-end party will be organized for 148 people. On the first day of the Lunar New Year, the center leaders will pay New Year visits to all the people here. Many folk games will be held here during Tet.
According to Pham Duc Tan, Director of the Center for Social Support and Social Work in Ninh Hoa Town, over the years, thanks to the support of the province and local authorities and sponsors, every Tet holiday, the center organizes a spring festival for old people and children to have new clothes, gather together making traditional Vietnamese rice cakes, enjoying happy moments with flowers, playing folk games, receiving New Year's wishes and lucky money. In addition, the center organizes activities telling inspirational and fun stories about Tet to kids. These activities create warm festive atmosphere, helping the people here feel like at home with family love and care.
There are 6 public social support facilities and 13 ones, giving care to 900 people. To guarantee that “no-one will be left behind”, before Tet, the Department of Labor, War Invalids & Social Affairs has provided constancy for the Provincial People's Committee to add more good food to New Year meals; organize activities to celebrate Tet and take good care of the people here before, during and after Tet. In addition, the department regularly checks and reminds social support facilities of ensuring nutrition and safety during Lunar New Year celebration, following Covid-19 prevention and control regulations, according to the leader of the Department of Labor, War Invalids & Social Affairs.
