With the Lunar New Year right around the corner, Nha Trang City is seen with full of colorful plants and flowers on many main streets such as 23-10, Thai Nguyen, Le Thanh Ton, 2-4, Da Tuong, Yersin; at Khanh Hoa Children’s House, Vinh Hai Market and in school grounds. There are a wide variety of plants and flowers for the Lunar New Year decoration such as yellow apricot and peach blossoms, orchids, daisies, kumquats and Bougainvillea.
This year, most of the plants thrive well and bloom right at the Lunar New Year’s Day thanks to favorable weather. The prices of flowers and plants increase by 5 - 20%. Chrysanthemum costs VND3 - 3.5 million/pot, medium size: VND1.5-2 million/pot, small size: VND300,000 - 800,000/pot. 5-petal yellow apricot costs VND500,000 - 5 million/pot; 24-petal yellow apricot: VND6-20 million/pot; kumquat: VND200,000 - 500,000/pot, large size: VND1.8-5 million/pot. Nhat Tan peach blossoms: VND3 -10 million. Orchids range from VND180,000 to 400,000/ plant; Phalaenopsis orchids with dozens of branches or more are priced from VND10 to 15 million/pot.

Other flowers namely daisy, celosia, etc. cost VND50,000-300,000/pot. According to gardeners and traders, the price of ornamental plants and flowers are up due to the rise in agricultural materials and oil prices affecting transportation costs.
Nguyen Minh Thanh, a trader on Le Thanh Ton Street said “My yellow apricots are from Tuy Hoa, Phu Yen. This year I just trade in half of last year’s sales as I am afraid I won't sell well because of the Covid-19 and the increase in the cost.”
According to Tran Huy, a gardener on 23-10 Street, the price has increased by 5 -10%. Therefore, to cut down the cost, he does not hire salesmen. His family members themselves directly do the work instead.
In spite of flowers in pots, yellow apricot branches also sell well at VND200.000-250.000/ 10 branches. Minh Hoa, Vinh Diem Trung Urban Area said, “Instead of buying a pot of flowers like last year, I decide to get yellow apricot branches to decorate my living room. They look so vivid and beautiful.”
