The health sector in Khanh Hoa Province gained much achievement in public health care along with Covid-19 prevention and control in 2021.

According to Dr. Bui Xuan Minh, Director of the Department of Health, in 2021, under the close direction of the Provincial Party Committee, People's Council and People's Committee and the efforts of medical staff, the provincial health sector completed and achieved important targets. Specifically, the number of doctors per 10,000 people reached 10.5 (exceeding over 2 doctors as required); the number of hospital beds/10,000 people reached 35.6; the rate of malnutrition with low birth weight among children under 5 was 7.38%, stunted 8.53%; the rate of health insurance coverage reached 92%. In addition, the health sector effectively implemented the treatment and prevention of many diseases.

Especially in mid 2021, during the 4th wave of Covid-19, the provincial health sector coordinated with local departments and agencies to promptly take drastic measures against the pandemic which has been basically under control in the province.

65,290 have recovered from Covid-19, accounting for 92% of infections in Khanh Hoa. 2,737,400 Covid-19 vaccine doses, including 1,091,899 first, 1,082,770 second and 757,020 third shots, have been administered. Over 100% adults have taken the second doses with nearly 80% receiving the third doses. 100% kids aged 12 to 17 have been given the first dose of Covid-19 vaccines and nearly 97% receiving the second shots.

In Khanh Hoa, human resources and equipment of the provincial preventive medicine system has met basic needs for the control and prevention of Covid-19 and other common pandemics in the province. However, the facilities of the provincial Center for Disease Control (CDC), the leading unit in the implementation of preventive medicine activities, are still inadequate in many places. Grassroots healthcare facilities have basically met disease treatment and prevention requirements thanks to domestic and foreign projects over years, but still facing a shortage of human resources, especially doctors.

Khanh Hoa Department of Health has had specific directions for solutions. Regarding infrastructures of CDC, Khanh Hoa Department of Health has submitted a project of construction on an area of 1ha in Vinh Trung Commune to the Provincial People's Committee. The work is expected to begin in the period of 2022-2025.

As for grassroots health facilities, the Department of Health has built a policy to increase the workforce of commune health workers; continuing boosting training, technology transfer and rotation of cadres from provincial to district and commune levels. In addition to annual investment, in the period of 2022-2025, the sector will focus on investing in equipment in some health care facilities such as Cam Lam District Medical Center, Ninh Diem Hospital and Tu Bong General Clinic (Van Ninh District).

“On the occasion of the 67th anniversary of Vietnamese Doctors' Day (February 27), I would like to offer heartfelt thanks and appreciation to healthcare workers for all the care and courage, especially their families for incredible support and devotion during Covid-19 in an effort to ensure health and safety for everyone,” said Dr. Bui Xuan Minh.
