The Association of Yersin Admirers has just opened a free vocational training course for children with disability and those in severely disadvantaged circumstances. The course has showed the social responsibility and support of Association of Yersin Admirers’ members.
 
Practical training
 
The restaurant and hotel service training course provides basic knowledge and skills about guest reception and service at restaurants and hotels. After the course, learners will have essential knowledge and skills to work in environments suitable for their abilities. “Experienced and enthusiastic teachers are invited to the class. The lessons are specifically designed with visual aids and practice to suit the learners,” said Dong Luong Son, Chairman of the Association of Yersin Admirers.

Bartender training.
 
 
The three-month course has 2 classes/ week, focusing on hotel, restaurant and bar service skills with basic bartending and cooking art. Learners will be provided with simple instructions about personal hygiene before getting to work, cleaning tools, identifying tools, food, drinks and other ingredients as well as other skills of food handling, food presentation, cocktail catering, cooking some dishes, etc.
 
 “Learners are children with disabilities, so I try to teach the simplest and the most practical knowledge so that they can easily understand and practice. On the basis, they will gradually improve their skills and knowledge during working," said Teacher Nguyen Thi My Kim. “The lessons are suitable for us. My classmates and I will try our best to learn so that we can work and integrate into the community,” Student Nguyen Thai Bao Tran said
 
In this first class, there are 10 learners aged 14 to 17, including 7 with hearing loss and 3 with autism. The vocational training help them feel the love and care from people around them, according to Phan Thi Ngoc Sinh, Deputy Director of the Provincial Center for Rehabilitation - Education for Children with Disabilities.
 
Creating work opportunities
 
The Association of Yersin Admirers has organized several practical activities towards the community and students in need such as providing free medical examination, treatment and relief to people in difficult circumstances; presenting Yersin scholarships and so on.
 
In order to organize the restaurant and hotel service course, members of the association have contributed and sought funding from organizations and individuals. “The first class has only 13 learners. During the course, we will try to contact some restaurants and hotels in Nha Trang City for apprenticeship. After this class, we will assist learners in finding suitable jobs. In the future, we will try to expand the class size to benefit more kids in need," said Dong Luong Son.
 
According to Nguyen Thi Le Thanh, Director of the Department of Tourism, the effort to open such a course for children with special needs is really appreciated. Hopefully, tourism businesses, catering and accommodation businesses will enthusiastically provide support for internships and job opportunities for learners after completing the course, thus spreading the spirit of social responsibility in Khanh Hoa.
 
Pham Minh Nhut, Standing Vice-Chairman of Nha Trang - Khanh Hoa Tourism Association, Director General of Hon Tam Nha Trang Sea Joint Stock Company said the association's members would be informed about this course to provide assistance in terms of internships as well as employment. The company will support Association of Yersin Admirers to help learners find jobs after the course.
