After Tet holiday 2022, schools in Khanh Hoa Province have opened for direct learning with health and safety protocols ensured to keep students and teachers safe during the unprecedented Covid-19 outbreak.

After the first term of the academic year 2021-2022 with blended learning of both online and direct classes, the second term after Tet holiday has begun in safe adaption to the new normal. Kids’ schoolbags include not only books, notebooks, study items, but also bottles of hand sanitizer, drinking water and face masks.

Nguyen Xuan Phu, class 7/1, Au Co Junior High School, Nha Trang City, said “Back to school, I am so happy to meet my friends and teachers again. I bring some face masks and hand sanitizer with me although they are also available at school. Following the pandemic prevention and control regulations, I feel safer at school.”

A twelfth-grader at Ly Tu Trong High School said, “In-person learning helps us feel more confortable and find it easier to learn after prolonged online classes. This is my last year at junior high school. We are trying our best to get the best results in the coming graduation emanations.”

To prepare for the return of students, schools have taken proactive measures to ensure sufficient facilities and conditions for direct teaching and learning together with clean-up and disinfection to keep schools safe from Covid-19. Besides, schools have built Covid-19 response scenarios in accordance with local circumstances; and given notification to students and their parents of the Ministry of Health’s 5K recommendations.

With the target of 100% students passing the high school graduation examination, Ly Tu Trong High School has built a revision plan for 12th graders. The revision course is expected to start in the 2nd week of April. Nursery to high schools welcomed 257,945 students back on February 7-9. All the students have received the second dose of  Covid-19 vaccines and over 95% of teachers have got the third vaccine shots.

However, 70% of kids have been back to nursery schools. Covid-19 school health and safety protocols together with flexible adaption plans have been ensured. As Covid-19 surges, some parents are still worried about sending their children back to classrooms.

Cao Thi Hanh, Principal of Phuoc Long Nursery School, Nha Trang City said, “The school has been well prepared to welcome kids back with notification given to parents via Zalo and recommendation that children get a rapid test for Covid-19 before being sent back to school. The school has maintained compliance with epidemic prevention and control regulations, following 5K principles and taking kids' body temperatures twice a day together with daily health monitoring."

Vo Hoan Hai, Director of the Department of Education and Training reported that the number of students returning to school after the Lunar New Year holiday in the province has reached about 95%. However, the figure is not high in the two mountainous districts of Khanh Son and Khanh Vinh. The Department has directed the two local authorities to deploy appropriate teaching schemes in adaption to the current pandemic situations to increase school attendance after Tet.
