Vocational schools in Khanh Hoa Province have adopted digital transformation in management and education...

Vocational schools in Khanh Hoa Province have adopted digital transformation in management and education. In the coming time, vocational schools will boost digital transformation and promote digital environment, creating breakthrough in training and education.

Information technological application

Digital transformation has been focused at  Nha Trang College of Technology, bringing some initial effectiveness. The curricula for all majors are compiled, assessed and selected by the school to ensure the continuity in the vocational training and education system. The school has been transferred vocational training programs for information technology (software application), automotive technology and industrial electrical engineering with learning resources, materials, instructions, assessment, etc. by Australia and Germany. Based on the resources, the school has updated appropriate content into its training program, promoting learners’ access to knowledge in modern and effective ways.

In addition, the school has focused on innovation in teaching and learning methods. The school has sent 30 teachers to study in countries with developed vocational training such as Malaysia, Australia and Germany; and then the teachers are to share the knowledge acquired with their colleagues. During the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020, the school flexibly used the e-learning management system (Moodle LMS) and free online meeting platforms (Google Meet, Quickom) to maintain classroom teaching and learning interaction in the new situation. Particularly, the school has boosted information technology in management and teaching, which has been highly ranked by the Department of Information and Communications. The school has also used e-records in teaching and learning, facilitating employers to access to students’ learning process, according to Nguyen Van Luc, Principal of  Nha Trang College of Technology.

Digital transformation has also been applied at Khanh Vinh Boarding Ethnic Minority Vocational School. The school uses a property and student management app. Projectors are used in the classroom to improve teaching and learning outcomes. During the Covid-19 outbreak, the school used some free apps for teaching some theory online. Besides, the school has built a website and updated all of its information and activities related to recruitment, reference and study results.

Synchronous and comprehensive measures to be taken

According to Kieu Xuan Khiem, Principal of Khanh Vinh Boarding Ethnic Minority Vocational School, digital transformation at the school has been limited due to funding constraints. Teaching and management staff have not fully had access to digital transformation information. The school needs more support from the Central and local authorities to further digital transformation under the direction of the Prime Minister.

Nha Trang College of Technology has taken advantage of softwares and apps available, free of charge or at low cost in digital transformation, so the digital transformation has not been sufficiently integrated into the vocational education. Therefore, the school has built a plan on digital transformation from now to 2025, vision to 2030. The school is in need of more support from the Central and local authorities for comprehensive digital transformation, said the leader of Nha Trang College of Technology.

Under the direction of the Provincial People's Committee, the Department of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs has developed a plan to develop a digital transformation program in vocational training till 2025, vision to 2030 and submitted it to the Provincial People's Committee for consideration and promulgation in the near future.

Therefore, many solutions in digital transformation at vocational schools will be drastically boosted to ensure interconnection, synchronization and consistency, focusing on conducting more review and making proposal to central ministries and agencies to improve relevant legal documents; meeting standards for digital schools, digital infrastructures, digital labs, digital textbooks, digital training programs; applying virtual reality technologies in vocational education activities; developing infrastructures, platforms, equipment and digital learning materials in vocational training in accordance with digital transformation requirements in the economy and international integration; raising digital capacity of teachers, administrators; innovating teaching and learning methods, according to Ta Hong Quang, Director of the Department of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs.

According to the draft plan on vocational training, the targets by 2030 include 100% of teaching and management staff provided further training related to digital capacities, appropriate teaching skills and methods in the digital environment; 100% of training outcome standards of vocational schools and colleges integrated with digital capacities with skills strategies for future labor markets in the digital process. In addition, 100% of colleges and vocational schools are expected to have digital infrastructures and platforms to get connected with the national digital vocational training platform; 100% of vocational schools in Khanh Hoa will have digitalized the leaning process and results and certification; connected and interrelated data on the digital environment. Nha Trang College of Technology will be a digital school by 2030.
