Khanh Hoa Youth Federation in partnership with Zema Vietnam Company has just organized “Exchanging trash for gifts” program, helping raise environmental awareness as well as support kids at SOS Nha Trang Children’s Village.

The program took place in several places in Nha Trang City on July 9-15, attracting many coming to exchange trash for gifts. At Lotte Mart Nha Trang, Nguyen Tran Cat Tuong (23-10 Street) brought more than 20 plastic bottles and waste paper in exchange for gifts such as glass bottles, beauty care vouchers, Himalaya salt, etc. "I come here for shopping and find the activity very practical. It inspires us to become more aware of trash classification to save the environment,” she said.

Another resident named Truong Thien Phuoc, Vinh Phuong Commune, felt excited about the activity of exchanging recyclable waste for gifts. “The program is interesting and meaningful as the proceeds are used to help kids in need. I will ask my friends to join the activity if possible.”

According to the organizers, there are many collection points in Nha Trang City such as Co.opmart Nha Trang; Gold Coast Mall Nha Trang (1 Tran Hung Dao Street); VietSmile Café (No.5 V2 Street, Phuoc Hai Ward); Provincial Children’s House; Lotte Mart Nha Trang; Dam Market Apartment Building; 20 Tran Hung Dao Street (Loc Tho Ward), etc.

Recyclable waste such as plastic bottles, cans, used dry batteries, waste paper and so on can be exchanged for practical gifts from Zema Vietnam Company. Specifically, 10 used plastic bottles or 2kg of waste paper can be exchanged for hair, skin or nail care vouchers at Zema spa together with some optional gifts such as water containers, Himalayan salt, body sponges and eyebrow pencils. 3,500 gifts totaling about VND3 billion have been given so far.

The program was developed by the provincial Youth Federation in cooperation with Zema Vietnam Company to spread messages of environmental protection, plastic waste recycling and benefits of waste sorting and recycling. After the garbage-for-gift activity, 100% of proceedings are donated to SOS Nha Trang Children's Village with 50 gifts worth VND500,000 each.

In addition, Zema Vietnam Company presented 15 scholarships worth VND20 million each worth a vocational training course for those turning 18 years old at SOS Nha Trang Children's Village together with job creation support after the training, according to Nguyen Khac Duy, Vice-Chairman of the provincial Youth Federation.
