Women Unions and branches in Khanh Hoa Province have implemented various meaningful activities and models to share burdens and difficulties with those in need.

Community sharing

The closet of used clothes “Give what you can, take what you need” has been present at Phuoc Trung 2 Women Union Branch, Phuoc Long Ward, Nha Trang City since July 10 to support those in financially hardship. 60-year-old Nguyen Thi Dan said, “I'm temporarily residing in Phuoc Long Ward, I always receive support from other women. Thanks to the charity closet, we can have more clothes to wear. They are used but still quite new. I will wash and use them.”

The charity clothing closet is placed at a mini football field on the corner of Vuong Thua Vu Street and Thich Quang Duc Street. Women Union members are present at the closet to help with the donation pick-up. Most of the people taking the clothes are poor. Via the social media Facebook, many know about the charity closet and donate more used clothes. Many residents also help with neatly wrapping and arranging clothing in the closet, said Pham Thi Lanh, Chief of  Phuoc Trung 2 Women Union Branch.

In addition, the free pot of porridge placed at 31 Ngo Quyen by Van Gia Town Women’s Union, Van Ninh District has been available since June, receiving much support from many benefactors. “I feel very happy to get free porridge. I have been selling lottery tickets for 10 years. The free meals help save much of our family’s daily expense,” said Mai Thuy Hien, Van Gia Town.

Expanding charity models

According to the leader of Provincial Women’s Union, besides existing models and clubs, the Women’s Union has founded and expanded other charity models. Several models implemented in the first 6 months of 2022 included "Reading space" and "Charity bookshelves" with nearly 800 titles of books; hand-writing and coloring items, play and study areas; providing free food for poor patients at hospitals; mobilizing donations to offer 10,085 gifts totaling more than VND2.5 billion to disabled, poor kids, women, policy beneficiaries and ethnic minority people.

According to Nguyen Hong Khanh Quynh, Chairperson of Van Ninh District Women’s Union, the free pot of porridge shows community sharing with those who need it the most but also provides a link for people to get-together. In the coming time, the district Women’s Union will continue implementing the model and mobilizing donations of organizations and individuals to expand such models to communes to widen their reach.

The Provincial Women's Union will continue directing its affiliations to effectively implement tasks for the last 6 months of 2022; expand sample models in various sectors to promote emulation campaigns and practical activities to show the social responsibilities of Women’s Union officials to ensure the assistance goes where it is most needed, according to Nguyen Quynh Nga, Chairperson of Provincial Women's Union.
