The number of overseas Vietnamese returning home to do business and invest in Khanh Hoa Province is on the increase. Besides the contribution to local economic development, the resources from overseas Vietnamese mean a lot in terms of promoting the strength of national unity.
Appealing investment
In recent years, Khanh Hoa has attracted many domestic and foreign investors and enterprises. Currently, there are 50 enterprises with a total capital of about VND9,251 billion invested or contributed by nationals in the province. They are expatriates living in the USA, Canada, Japan, Belgium, the Netherlands, Laos, Germany... Most of them are investing in restaurants, hotels and resorts.
In general, overseas Vietnamese in Khanh Hoa have done effective investment and business, contributing to provincial socio-economic growth, promoting the destination of Khanh Hoa worldwide. The fact that more and more nationals are investing in Khanh Hoa has created trust and thus facilitated the calling Vietnamese community and foreigners to invest in the province, contributing to improving infrastructures and services to attract tourists and provide jobs for residents.

In addition, under the scheme on providing support for those working abroad, 120 – 150 workers are sent to work abroad every year under employment contracts (the number is limited in 2020 and 2021 due to Covid-19). The labor export market is mainly in mechanical engineering, agriculture and construction in Japan with the labor contract duration from 2 to 3 years. When the contracts terminate, most workers return home and find stable jobs. Some can create jobs for themselves with savings and experience from their work abroad. Thanks to the effective implementation of the scheme, the number of Vietnamese workers abroad is increasing, helping creating stable jobs for residents.
Promoting nationals’ interest in investment in the homeland
Despite some achievements in appealing to investors who are overseas Vietnamese, there are some challenges due to slow investment procedures, limited promotion of natural conditions and local strengths, some cumbersome administrative formalities in attracting overseas Vietnamese’s investment in the homeland, etc.
Therefore, local authorities are paying much concern over appealing overseas community to invest in the province. The province has promulgated and implemented mechanisms and policies to attract human resources from abroad. Nationals with great contribution to local construction and development are highly appreciated. Since 2017, the Provincial People's Committee Chairman has awarded certificates of merit to 42 groups and 34 individuals of overseas Vietnamese and foreigners with excellent achievements in the local socio-economic development in Khanh Hoa Province.
The province has also come up with solutions to take advantage of resources from foreign organizations and individuals for local economic development. Specifically, small and medium enterprises benefit from 50% of ground rent assistance for production and business in industrial parks and industrial clusters. The province has also cooperated with central agencies to establish information channels with Vietnamese trade counselors in other countries to provide updated information about foreign partners and markets for businesses in the province; introduce provincial strengths and potentials on various propaganda channels to enhance competitiveness and promote operational efficiency.
