Maintaining several business start-up models
Under the scheme “business start-up assistance for women”, the business start-up with fruit trees in Dien Tho Commune implemented since 2018 has proved effective. The group membership has increased from 5 initially to 12. The members have had access to job creation loans to invest in their orchards. In early 2022, the association helped 3 members to access loans worth VND600 million from the Bank for Agriculture & Rural Development. Many members’ families have shifted to fruit framing with relatively good harvest, creating jobs, VND4 million/ month, for 20 women, according to Phan Thi Dep, Chairperson of Dien Tho Commune Women’s Association.
Bui Thi Nhu Y, a member of the commune Women’s Association said, “I used to earn a precarious living, struggling to make ends meet. Thanks to the support from the Union officials, I was introduced to work as a fruit farm worker, earning a more stable income.”
Dien Khanh District Women’s Union has organized various activities to assist members in family economic development as well as facilitate access to loans to aid business start-up and expansion with the cultivation of sugar canes, vegetables, straw mushroom, sewing, etc. Besides, the union has also provided knowledge about business start-up, advanced science and techniques; crop diversification and restructuring to raise productivity and make good use of loans. The union has introduced members’ business start-up models with such fruits as grapefruits, mangoes, jackfruits and oranges to Go Supermarket! and Co.opmart Nha Trang…, according to the leader of Dien Khanh District Women’s Union.

Moreover, the union has continued effectively taking advantage of and managing loans from the Bank for Social Policies, the Bank for Agriculture & Rural Development and some other commercial banks to support women to develop their business; directing Women’s Associations of communes and towns together with the Bank for Social Policies to boost the management of entrustment banking loan sources. The current balance is over VND228.5 billion in total, providing loans for 7,628 families belonging to 163 saving groups. The association members and officials are encouraged to save at least VND10,000/ person/ year and more than VND200 million have been saved so far.
In order to support members and women to start business and boost economic development effectively, in the coming time, the association will continue mobilizing families to get involved in crop diversification and restructuring; supporting women in starting business, building cooperatives to link production and trade; coordinating with functional agencies to support local women to increase production and promote brands; empowering women to improve finances and lift themselves out of poverty sustainably, according to Ngo Thi Thanh Binh, Vice- Chairperson of the District Women's Union.
