Population and family planning tasks have been focused, contributing to ensuring family happiness for social development in Khanh Hoa Province.
Propaganda boost
The propaganda for population and family planning is very important in changing behavior. Therefore, the population sector has cooperated with departments, agencies and localities to boost population propaganda based on specific age groups and other characteristics to increase efficiency in making a change in public awareness of family planning. The elderly are provided active health care knowledge to stay healthy as well as persuade their children to follow population and family planning policies.
Teenagers are provided with knowledge about reproductive health care; harmful effects of abortion and unintended pregnancies; and benefits of pre-marital health check. Women of reproductive age are provided with information about the benefits of prenatal and newborn screening to avoid birth defects; proper nutrition for pregnant women and mothers of children under 5, malnourished, overweight or obese.

“I’m going to give a birth soon. Thanks to population officials’ advice, I understand that pregnant women should have periodical health checks and screening before and after delivery to protect health of mothers and babies,” said Le Thi My Tu, Vinh Thai Commune, Nha Trang City. Apart from propaganda boost, population sector has cooperated with departments and organizations to promote efficiency of population clubs and models such as “Premarital health care counseling” model by the Youth Union, “Child care and education” and “Women with no more than 2 children” by the Women’s Union; “Health care for the elderly” by the Association for the Elderly.
Service network expansion
According to the leader of the Provincial Sub-Department of Population and Family Planning, Resolution No. 21-NQ/TW of the Central Party Committee has set 8 important population goals by 2030. One of the measures is to improve population services and expand the network. Therefore, this service provider network has been increasingly consolidated and developed. In 2021, the province deployed 3 supply channels, including technical service for family planning through medical facilities; community-based distribution through a network of 1,949 population collaborators and the marketing.
The family planning service system has basically met requirements. The majority of family planning service officials at health facilities have had access to the "National guidelines on reproductive health care services" according to regulations of the Ministry of Health. According to Tran Thi Kim Oanh, Director of Provincial Sub-Department of Population and Family Planning, in the coming time, the population sector will continue promoting communication to raise awareness and change behavior with the population policy shifted from family planning to population and social development; focusing on communication, mobilizing each couple to have two children; providing consultancy for the Department of Health to submit to the Provincial People's Committee to issue a plan on population task research, organization, network expansion and interdisciplinary coordination mechanism; and providing professional training for population officials at all levels in the 2021-2030 period.
In 2021, population officials provided counseling for 6,331 households; for 4,921 people at medical stations; integrated the contents about reproductive health care, family planning and the fight against child marriage into 84 village meetings with the participation of 1,247 people; held 96 talks about population and contraceptive social marketing with the participation of 4,257 people.
