Empowering children


Recently, Khanh Hoa Women’s Union in cooperation with Vietcombank Khanh Hoa offered 50 saving books totaling VND150 million to orphans in the province. Ho Cong Tuan, 14 years old, in Phuoc Thuan Village, Ninh Dong Commune, Ninh Hoa Town has just received a saving book. His mom died young of a disease. His dad remarried. Ho Cong Tuan has been living with his grandmother since a little child. His grandmother named Nguyen Thi Thang said, “The child has a hard life without the care of parents. I am old and weak without income. Thanks to the financial aid from his ants and uncles, he can continue his study. The saving book means so much to us in life.”

Different from Ho Cong Tuan, 7-year-old Mai Ngoc Lan in Tan Duc Dong, Van Luong Commune, Van Ninh District is a paternal orphan from a young age. The child is living with his sick mom. “I have unstable and low income. I am so grateful for the help and encouragement of all neighbors and financial aid from sponsors. I feel touched when receiving the saving book. I will try my best to work and save money for my child’s study,” said his mom.


Speaking at the event, a representative of Vietcombank Khanh Hoa affirmed, the offer of saving books to orphans is a meaningful activity launched by the Provincial Women's Union. Vietcombank Khanh Hoa hopes to share hardship and empower the children to have better learning conditions, helping them overcome difficulties and move forward.


Assistance comes in various forms


Over the past time, the Women's Union at all levels in the province has provided assistance in various ways to help orphans and disadvantaged children. In 2022, the Provincial Women's Union signed a cooperation program with Nha Trang Medical Joint Stock Company UNICARE to give free medical examination and treatment within 10 years to 1,100 orphans under 18 years old in the province with a total value of more than VND20 billion. The Union has also cooperated with the Provincial Study and Talent Promotion Fund to mobilize donation of 41 scholarships, VND1 million each, to 41 disadvantaged children on the occasion of the new school year.


Moreover, the Union at all levels has also provided aid for children from poor families in ethnic minority areas by giving gifts on the occasion of the International Children's Day (June 6), donating 600 scholarships, 30 bicycles and 40,500 gifts (including books, schoolbags, study items, uniforms ...) worth nearly VND2.55 billion on the back-to-school day... In response to the Action Month for Children 2022, the Union at all levels has cooperated with other sectors to open 20 communication classes for 1,753 officials and members on child care and protection skills; anti-; prevention and control of injuries, drowning, violence and child abuse.


Nguyen Hoang Van Ha, Vice-Chairperson of the Provincial Women's Union said that in the coming time, the Union will focus direction on continuing fulfilling child care and protection, especially the disadvantaged; contributing ideas and consultancy about child-related policies; mobilizing resources for child care and education.
