The project on enhancing  Vietnam Red Cross  emergency response capacity with several practical activities implemented in Khanh Hoa Province is helping promote preparedness and resilience against disasters.
 
Storm preparedness rehearsal
 
United States Agency for International Development (USAID) supports Vietnam Red Cross to improve emergency response in Khanh Hoa, helping to promote adaptation and resilience against disasters. Khanh Hoa Red Cross in cooperation with Ninh Phu Commune, Ninh Hoa Town has held a storm preparedness rehearsal 2022 under the project funded by USAID on improving Vietnam Red Cross emergency response capacity.

Le Van Xien, Head of Hoi Phu Bac 1 Village says, “The rehearsal has helped improve disaster response before, during and after storms, saving life and protecting properties of ourselves and communities. According to Pham Nguyet Anh, Vice-Chairperson of Ninh Phu Commune People’s Committee says, the locality is often submerged by floodwater. The rehearsal is for local authorities and residents to evaluate and thus improve response plans for better disaster response and rescue.
 
Several activities implemented
 
The project on enhancing emergency response capacity for Vietnam Red Cross has been developing in Khanh Hoa since 2019, focusing on first aid and emergency response training; providing basic facilities for response teams, disaster control and rescue rehearsal and propaganda. 
 
According to Le Van Hoa, Chairman of Khanh Hoa Red Cross, the project is to enhance the government and residents’ capacities to get well prepared for disaster emergencies to stay safe, save life and protect properties of communities amid unprecedented weather events.
 
Since the beginning of the year, the provincial management board has held 8 disaster and epidemic response courses, 45 propaganda sessions for more than 3,210 Red Cross officials and residents; provided first aid training for more than 100 volunteers in communes and wards involved in the project; distributed 2,390 leaflets, 3,830 bars of soap and 11,950 medical masks.
 
Besides, the Provincial Project Management Board has also coordinated with the Project Management Board of Vietnam Red Cross Association and the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting to conduct surveys, analyze climate risks and assess forecasts, give early weather warnings in 6 central coastal provinces (from Da Nang to Khanh Hoa); establish Red Cross first aid sites in Ninh Son Commune, etc.
 
In Khanh Hoa, period 2019-2021, the project was implemented in Ninh Dong and Ninh Ha Ward, Ninh Hoa Town, benefiting more than 37,150 people. In the period 2021-2023, the project has kept going in the 2 communities and expanded to the 2 communes of Ninh Son and Ninh Phu, Ninh Hoa Town.
