The impressed tortoise known as Manouria impressa has just been found at the height of 200-400m in a mountainous forest stream, according to the leader of Hon Ba Nature Reserve. The tortoise species mainly occurs in mountainous forest areas, sometimes at high elevations, up to over 900m. It becomes active at night and hides inside caves during the daytime. The species has a golden brown shell and skin with a carapace length of 180 - 206mm.
Manouria impressa was classified as endangered species by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) in 2020 and a vulnerable species that is threatened with extinction in Vietnam Red Book (rare and endangered species of fauna and flora native to Vietnam). Hon Ba Nature Reserve has enhanced forest protection patrols to reduce human impacts on the habitat of Manouria impressa.
