Khanh Hoa Department of Education & Training has just signed a cooperation program on physical education direction, management and implementation, period 2022-2026 with the Department of Culture & Sports, contributing to achieving all-round education targets at schools as well as create athlete resources for the province.


Physical education boost

According the report by Khanh Hoa Department of Education & Training, schools have implemented the Ministry of Education & Training’s physical education program. In 2021-2022 school year, 99.2% of students were qualified for physical education requirements. The number of PE teachers is sufficient to provide instruction and guidance within the subjects of physical health, development and sports participation.

The teachers also take part in the operation of sporting competitions at all levels through professional development courses, especially on swimming and drowning prevention and control held by Khanh Hoa Department of Education & Training jointly with Khanh Hoa Department of Culture & Sports.

Schools having registered and achieved the title of "Good physical education" at the provincial level has increased over the years. According to Le Dinh Thuan, Deputy Director of Khanh Hoa Department of Education & Training, the cooperation of Khanh Hoa Department of Education & Training and Department of Culture & Sports has created resources of athletes for provincial processional and amateur competitions.

However, there are some challenges such as lack of PE facilities. School sports clubs do not have funding for sufficient PE and physical educating equipment. 87% of schools have physical education and sports clubs, only 52% of which are operating regularly and effectively. Only 35% of students take part in extracurricular physical education and sports activities. 12 -16% of students have learned swimming under the provincial swimming scheme.


Cooperation continues


According to Le Dinh Thuan, in the period of 2022-2026, the department will continue coordinating with the Department of Culture and Sports in directing, managing and organizing physical education and sports at schools; strengthening propaganda to raise schools, teachers and students’ awareness of the role of physical education and sports at school; directing schools to fully implement the Ministry of Education and Training’s curricula, promote activities of clubs and innovate teaching methods to keep students motivated and actively engaged in physical exercise and sporting activities to make regular physical exercise become daily habits to stay healthy.

The Department of Education and Training will continue coordinating with the Department of Culture and Sports to organize professional training courses for physical education teachers; directing educational institutions to closely coordinate with sports competition centers, centers of culture, information and sports of districts and towns in organizing and participating in sports tournaments organized by the Department of Culture and Sports, contributing to ensuring the interests of students and development activities of school sports clubs and provincial sports. In addition, the Department of Culture and Sports will direct the divisions of culture and information, centers of culture, information and sports of districts and towns to create favorable conditions in terms of facilities to bring physical education as a compulsory subject free of charge at school according to the program prescribed by the Ministry of Education and Training.

The leader of Department of Education and Training suggests the ministry of Education and Training would have incentive policies to encourage students to gain sporting achievements at provincial sports completions, especially team sports, swimming…, create favorable conditions for schools, the sector of education and training to school physical education and sports, meeting students’ increasing requirements for physical exercise and amusement.
