Coming to Yen Vui Eatery (9 Ben Cho, Nha Trang City), poor people can have super-cheap meals at just VND1,000- 2,000/portion. This offer provides food to those who may struggle to afford it to get through hard times.
At nearly 11a.m, the shop is full of customers waiting their turns to get cheap meals. 72-year-old Nguyen Thi Cuc, a lottery ticket seller said, “With just VND2,000, I can have enough food for lunch. I am so happy. All the volunteers here are very enthusiastic. I come here for lunch whenever it’s open.”
According to Dang Duong Lan Huong, Yen Vui Shop manager, the shop is run by Ho Chi Minh City-based Lotus Charity Foundation from November 2 to bring cheap meals to low-income earners in Nha Trang City. The service is on every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, starting at 11:00, offering 100 portions/ day. The portion costs VND1,000/ vegetarian food and VND2,000/ normal food. Since opening, the shop has received many customers, mostly low-income earners, lottery-ticket sellers, rickshaw riders, loading/unloading workers, etc.

The shop is committed to helping those in need to get a delicious, nutritious meals cooked and served by 5 volunteers. They start work early in the morning and put food into trays ready to be served at about 10a.m. Each food tray contains sufficient rice and fried, stir-fired or steamed dishes, vegetables together with fruits for dessert.
Volunteers are also arranged to help the old people. The newly-opened shop has received positive comments and feedbacks. “Workers can have lunch with enough food with only VND2,000. There are various dishes with gourd soup cooked with mushrooms, chicken eggs braised with meat, pumpkin braised with vegetables and so on. Hopefully, the shop will be sponsored by many benefactors to maintain long-term operation and extend service to every day instead of 3 days per week like now to benefit more people in need,” said Tran Van Thuy, a rickshaw rider.
According to Dang Duong Lan Huong, Yen Vui Shop is sponsored by Lotus Charity Foundation together with contributions from many individuals. In addition, the small amount of money paid by customers is added the operation fund of the shop. In the coming time, when the operation is stable with more funding, the shop will gradually increase meals to 400/day, striving to become a place for emergency aid and medical assistance in the future.
