In 2022, implementing international cooperation and charity tasks, Khanh Hoa General Hospital has cooperated with foreign associations and doctors to provide medical check-ups and counseling in the province.
In mid November, hundreds of residents in Suoi Cat Commune, Cam Lam District arrived at the local medical station for free check-up by Khanh Hoa General Hospital in partnership with S. Korean doctors. There were separate sections for dermatology, odonto stomatology, cardiology, rheumatology, ophthalmology and otorhinolaryngology.
63-year-old Nguyen Thi Hanh said, “I have a sore eye. The doctor examined me very carefully and gave me free medicines. I hope local residents will benefit from more such medical charity trips here.”
60-year-old Nguyen Dan said, “I am old with a pain in my arms and legs, so travelling to see a doctor is quite hard work. Through the charity program, we have a chance to access medical examination and counseling conducted by leading domestic and international physicians for better health treatment and care."
Together with 20 physicians of Khanh Hoa General Hospital, more than 30 doctors and volunteers of Korean Open Doctor Society joined the charity trip. The Korean Open Doctor Society also brought medical equipment and offered free medications. Korean Open Doctor Society is a non-profit organization founded for 25 years with the participation of 3,500 physicians, medical staff and volunteers. Korean Open Doctor Society regularly organizes charity medical trips to developing countries, reaching out to farmers, old and vulnerable people. This is the 10th trip to Vietnam with the main purpose to support medical care in rural areas, according to Ahn Seong Jun, Head of the Korean Open Doctor Society.
Dr. Vo Hieu, Khanh Hoa General Hospital, a member of the delegation said, “We, especially young doctors, benefit a lot from the experience and expertise of the Korean Open Doctor Society. The activity has strengthened the cooperation between the 2 countries but also contributed to health care in remote areas.”
Also in November, physicians of the from the Department of General Surgery, Khanh Hoa General Hospital in collaboration with Professor Nguyen Nam, Chief of Surgery Department of Los Angeles Children's Hospital (USA) conducted examination and consultation for nearly 20 kids with severe deformities, biliary tract, intestinal tract, anal malformation, diaphragmatic hernia, etc. in the province. In addition, medical staff of Khanh Hoa General Hospital were transferred treatment techniques of such diseases from Professor Nguyen Nam. Through the program, 8 kids were treated right at the Provincial General Hospital instead of having to be transferred to a higher level.
Covid-19 had caused the regular international cooperation in medical check-ups and counseling to a halt. In late 2022, thanks to the support of the Provincial People’s Committee, Department of Health and local departments and agencies, the international cooperation has been resumed towards the community health care boost in remote areas, helping medical staff to expand their international cooperation relationships, widen their knowledge and sharpen their professional skills, according to Phan Huu Chinh, Director of Khanh Hoa General Hospital.
