Xom Bong Bridge construction is being accelerated with additional labour and equipment for the project to be completed and put into service in September 2023.
Recently, despite adverse water conditions, the construction is underway with more than 100 workers and machineries speeding up the work progress. A large amount of building materials have been gathered at the construction site.
According to Tran Van Nghia, Director Assistant of Xom Bong Bridge project, a road and water traffic control plan for the construction of Xom Bong Bridge has been completed. Regarding main work items, the contractor has completed the construction of northern bridge abutments and 3 pillars. The construction of beams with the girder and auxiliary casting pedestal has basically finished. The casting of the first girder slab is expected to start on December 18.

Some challenges to the construction recently are due to downpours for several days, causing work disruptions which is needed to ensure safety, protecting workers' lives and machineries. Others include some difference between the design and the actual construction process. The project has been 25% complete, meeting technical standards and commitments with the Ministry of Transport.
Currently, several project works, specifically pile pressing line for the retaining wall and the bridgehead road, are underway. According to the plan, the construction unit will complete the northern retaining wall before the Lunar New Year and move on with the other to the south. 2 execution teams will be in charge of constructing 2 bored piles. The construction of launching girders will be after the Lunar New Year break.
Obstacles to construction to the southern bridge end include site clearance. To meet the work schedules with the completion time in September 2023, the constractor needs to mobilize more human resources to accelerate construction. The execution team must make advantage of favorable weather conditions to have 3 full-day shifts. The department has held a meeting with relevant agencies to speed up site clearance and land handover to facilitate the work on the southern bridge end.
