Vo Hoan Hai, Director of Khanh Hoa Department of Education & Training awards 1st-prize winners.

Pham Khanh Vy and Huynh Duong Tuyet Nhi, Hoang Van Thu High School, Nha Trang City, said, “We are implementing a project to improve disabled students' access to education. By propaganda via various channels and exchange activities, we hope we could motivate the unfortunate to overcome difficulties and integrate into the community.”

In other fields, there is a variety of research topics, including mixed sectors. This is a good chance for competitors to exchange experience in scientific research.

Tran Hoang Minh Vuong and Tran Nguyen Minh Hien, Nguyen Thi Minh Khai High School, Van Ninh District said, “We designed a telescope to serve teaching and research at high school. During the research, we faced many difficulties, especially aligning the spherical mirror and lens to obtain the clearest images. We received suggestions and guidance from teachers and judges to improve our product."

This year’s contest has some entries on artificial intelligence (AI). 3 out of 5 first prize winning projects are related to AI. They include gesture aid system in communication for the deaf and dumb (Trinh Huu Tri and Pham Nguyen Khang, Le Quy Don Gifted High School, Nha Trang City); fake news recognition on social media (Nguyen Hoang Minh Ngoc, Le Quy Don High School for the Gifted and Nguyen Hoang Minh Chau, Thai Nguyen Junior High School, Nha Trang); and fire detection and monitoring (Nguyen Nhat Huy and Luong Nu Thuy Duyen, Tran Binh Trong High School, Cam Lam District).

The other 2 first winning projects are improving adaptation to peer pressure in learning among high school students in Nha Trang City (Van Duy Phuc and Ngo Khanh Nam, Le Quy Don Gifted High School); and Smart helmet (Vo Le Kim Nhung and Tu Thi Thanh Tuyen, Hoa Lu Junior High School, Van Ninh District). Besides, the organizing board presented 10 second, 18 third and 38 fourth prizes to the projects.

Facilitating scientific research

According to Le Dinh Thuan, Vice-Director of Khanh Hoa Department of Education & Training, this year’s contest received many well-prepared high quality entries. Some consultted experts from universities inside and outside the province. Most students showed their ability to apply their knowledge into reality, present and showcase their projects. Some projects needed to be guided for further development.

The Department of Education & Training has asked schools to facilitate scientific research among students. When the provincial contest finishes, schools need to move on to the next year’s event by making early training plans to get students and teachers inspired and well-prepared for the contest.
