With the Lunar New Year’s Day or Tet 2023 knocking at our doors, supermarkets and traditional markets are so crowded with shoppers. Goods are in abundance, meeting the demand for the biggest and busiest holiday of the year.
To meet the increased demand for Tet, supermarkets, trade centers, traditional markets and shops have prepared sufficient goods for the holiday season. Lots of residents and tourists are heading to supermarkets such as Co.opmart Nha Trang, Lottemart Nha Trang and Go! to do shopping. Many gather at stalls of beer, wine, beverage, cakes, candies, fruits, frozen food, etc. Tet gift baskets are also available for a wide choice of customers. Beer and soft drinks are plentiful to serve customers. Heineken beer is priced at 433,900 VND/ cardboard box, Heineken silver: 444,000 VND/ cardboard box, tiger: VND369,000/ cardboard box, coca cola: 197,500 VND/ cardboard box.
Vo Phi Hai, Deputy Director of Co.opmart Nha Trang said Co.opmart Nha Trang has prepared for holiday season supply since September 2022 to ensure sufficient supply and stable prices. An abundance of necessities, including vegetables and meat are available to keep up with food sales and appeal customers. All goods are available on shelves at stable prices. The cost of some kinds of goods, especially jams, candies and cakes are even 5-49% off to seve customers’ need during Tet.
The number of customers to supermarkets has increased by 25-27% compared with the same period last year with 4,000 – 4,200 arrivals/ day. The buying capacity has jumped by approximately 35%. The supermarket is also running a promotional program with free delivery to attract customers.
Most supermarkets are open until January 21 or the last day of the Lunar Year 2022. Co.opmart Nha Trang is due to be closed at 17h30 on January 21 and open at 7:30 on January 27. Lottemart Nha Trang and GO! is scheduled to be closed at 14 on January 21 and open at 10 on January 27. On the first day of the Lunar New Year, Co.opmart Nha Trang will celebrate its opening with unicorn dance, lucky money offer, discount programs and lucky draw for the first shoppers of the Lunar New Year.
Traditional markets, namely Dam Market, Xom Moi Market, Vinh Hai Market, etc. are experiencing crowds of holiday shoppers. Most of them buy fresh food, fruits and vegetables. Besides traditional items for Tet, some also buy dried seafood to serve guests or give their friends and family members as New Year gifts. The price of dried seafood has remained unchanged compared wish normal days. Dried squid (small size) is VND650,000-700,000/ kg, yellowstripe scad: VND180,000/ kg, spiced dried squid: VND200,000-300,000/ kg. Tomato is VND40,000 /kg, cucumber: VND40,000 /kg. Fruits has increased slightly: Tangerine: VND50,000/kg, dragon fruit: VND50,000 /kg, pear: VND70,000 /kg, custard apple:VND120,000-150,000/kg, etc.
According to a dried food retailer at Vinh Hai Market, the buying capacity is increasing significantly but it is not a dramatic rise as besides traditional markets, there is a wide variety of sales channels meeting shoppers’ needs and interests on the New Year’s Day.
