School kids are excited to exchange recyclable waste for plants.

As many as 700 pupils and their teachers joined the activity, exchanging recyclable waste such as used paper, cans and bottles for plants. Small plants were given to those with less than 3kg of waste and bigger ones to those with more than 3kg of waste.

According to Teacher Duong Hong Hiep, Principal of Vinh Nguyen 1 Primary School, this was the first time the school had had such a trash-for-plant program and kids were so excited to take part in. The activity helped inspire saving and recycling for environmental sake among pupils. The school will launch the emulation campaign for tree care at school.

This is the third year the activity has been held by Nha Trang City Comrade Associate  at school to educate environmental protection, promote the habit of saving and waste classification and inspire kids to love and take care of trees.

The event aims to educate kids to follow Uncle Ho’s teachings and get them engaged in small acts that can make a difference for environmental sake, according to Chu Minh Phuong, Deputy Secretary of Nha Trang City Youth Union, Nha Trang City Comrade Associate.

Vinh Hiep Primary School’s Young Pioneer detachment has also held the program with more than 600 plants exchanged for trash. The event proved effective and therefore, it is expected to be included in the emulation content for primary schools’ young pioneer detachments next academic year, contributing to promoting responsible and green living among students and kids.
