A charity program, offering gifts, free haircut and hair wash, took place at Khanh Hoa General Hospital on March 23 in response to Vietnam Social Work Day (March 25).
Meaningful activities
Hundreds of disadvantaged patients benefitted from the program. The elderly with mobility difficulties were helped by social workers to get to the event on wheelchairs. Hospital leaders and benefactors offered 80 gifts worth VND500,000 each to patients with kidney failure at the hospital. Besides, poor patients got their hair cut and washed free of charge. The program was worth nearly VND70 million funded by companies, businesses and benefactors.
Receiving a rice portion from Khanh Hoa General Hospital leader, a 67-year-old patient named Nguyen Van Ngoi, who has been in hospital for 22 days, said, “Besides rice, fruits and milk, I got free haircut and hair wash. I feel touched and grateful." The owner of A-Tai Barbershop said, “We have joined the charity program for several times, offering free haircut to hospital patients. This is meaningful program. We are willing to join the charity event to help ease the burdens and sufferings of poor patients.”
This activity is regularly held to respond to the Vietnam Social Work Day to honor social workers who support individuals, families and communities for their betterment and contributing to ensuring the implementation of human rights, social justice and the well-being. The program is also designed to promote the mutual support tradition of Vietnamese people, according to Doan Thi Thuy Loan, Chief of Social Work Office, Khanh Hoa General Hospital.
Assistance for many patients
For several years, Khanh Hoa General Hospital has well implemented social work, mobilizing organizations and individuals to give direct and indirect aid to thousands of patients in need. According to Doan Thi Loan, the financial aid has increased by 4 times from VND500 - 700 million 5 years ago to VND3.5-4 billion.
In 2022 alone, the hospital provided link for organizations and individuals to give financial help worth VND3.5 billion to cover hospital fees and other costs; medical treatment to 24 homeless vulnerable people and abandoned babies; funded travel costs totaling VND154 million for 123 disadvantaged people discharged from hospital, transported back home or transferred to higher level of care.
Furthermore, the hospital received medical equipment, including 1 respiratory function meter, 1 Resmed portable ventilator, 1 CPAP ventilator, 4 monitoring machines monitoring, 1 Prismaflex continuous renal replacement therapy machine, 1 automatic chest compression machine, 28 wheelchairs, 2 syringe pumps, 37 stretchers and 63 trolleys with a total price of nearly VND 3.5 billion, etc.
