Nearly 20 years ago, a magnificent road through mountains and forests was built and put into operation, connecting the beautiful coastal city of Nha Trang with the romantic flower city of Da Lat in Lam Dong Province. This is an important road to serve the socio-economic development of the two provinces in particular and the Southern Central Region and Highlands in general.
According to documents, over 1 century ago, after discovering Da Lat, the Indochinese Governor General sent a mission to survey the opening of a route from Nha Trang to Da Lat. After nearly a year of the survey, finding it impossible to open the route through such a challenging terrain, they decided to build another from Phan Rang (Ninh Thuan Province) to Da Lat. However, the travel distance from Nha Trang to Da Lat through Ninh Thuan Province is more than 200km, limiting the tourism development in particular and the socio-economic development of the two localities in general.
Therefore, in 2004, the work on a road connecting Nha Trang and Da Lat officially began. It included Khanh Le Pass, more than 30km long, connecting Khanh Vinh District to Lac Duong District (Lam Dong Province) under an extremely challenging construction condition. After 3 years, the road construction finished in 2007, demonstrating the high determination of the authorities of the 2 provinces of Khanh Hoa and Lam Dong. The road connecting Nha Trang - Da Lat (National Highway 27C) was formed with a total length of about 130km, shortening the route travel through Ninh Thuan Province by nearly 90km.
Since then, this road has played such an important role in the development of Khanh Hoa Province in the regional connection strategy. This is consistent with the orientation defined in Resolution No. 09 by the Politburo on the construction and development of Khanh Hoa Province to 2030 with a vision to 2045, contributing to strengthening cooperation and connection with other provinces in the Southern Central Region and the Highlands; other provinces and cities throughout the country; localities inside and outside the region, especially in investment and trade promotion; tourism connection and so on.
