Khanh Hoa Province People’s Committee has entrusted Yasaka-Saigon-Nhatrang Joint Stock Company with preserving and embellishing Dr. Yersin’s tomb and house since April 12. The two historical monuments are expected to be more beautiful and serve visitors better.
Alexandre Yersin (1863-1943) was a Swiss physician and bacteriologist whose research has made a lot of contributions to the mankind. He settled down in Nha Trang in 1891 and breathed his last at the age of 80 here. Dr.Yersin’s tomb at Suoi Dau, Dien Khanh District and his house on Mount Hon Ba, Cam Lam District, Khanh Hoa Province have become famous destinations for tourists to the province over years.

Recently, Yasaka-Saigon-Nhatrang Joint Stock Company has asked the provincial People’s Committee’s permission to undertake the preservation and embellishment of the two monuments. In a meeting with Vice-chairman of Khanh Hoa Province Le Xuan Than, leaders of the provincial Department of Culture – Sports and Tourism, Yersin Admirers’ Association and some related departments on April 5, leaders of Yasaka-Saigon-Nhatrang Joint Stock Company showed their desire to contribute to preserving and embellishing Dr.Yersin’s tomb and house to express their gratitude to Dr. Yersin and his credit to the mankind in general and Khanh Hoa Province in specific. The company also presented its ways to protect and embellish these historical monuments for tourism, not for business.
On April 12, Khanh Hoa Province’s Vice-chairman Le Xuan Than along with leaders of provincial Department of Culture – Sports and Tourism, Department of Natural Resources and Environment, Department of Construction and Yasaka-Saigon-Nhatrang Joint Stock Company checked the actuality of Dr.Yersin’s house and related item. Then, the vice-chairman approved Yasaka-Saigon-Nhatrang Joint Stock Company’s suggestion. He also allowed the company to set up a roadside station in the road to Hon Ba, grow flowers in the tomb and house area, restore the horse cage and build up an ancient house as a souvenir shop in Yersin’s house.

Socializing preservation of Dr. Yersin tomb and house is a reasonable decision of the provincial authority as Yasaka-Saigon-Nhatrang Joint Stock Company will only take care of and embellish the two historical monuments, not change them. Moreover, the company has committed to return the monuments whenever being requested. It is expected that Dr. Yersin tomb and house will become more impressive to visitors.
