Nha Trang has an Aikido club, which has run for four years and attracted a number of martial art lovers.

Aikido is a Japanese martial art developed by Morihei Ueshiba as a synthesis of his martial studies, philosophy, and religious beliefs. Aikido is often translated as "the Way of unifying life energy" or as "the Way of harmonious spirit." Ueshiba’s goal was to create an art that practitioners could use to defend themselves while also protecting their attacker from injury.

Today Aikido is found all over the world. It has come Vietnam since 1950s.

In Khanh Hoa Province, first Aikido Club was opened at Vinh Hoa Ward’s Culture Center in 2007 by Au Duong Di. Now the club has two spots, one at the Boarding School for Ethnic Minorities and Hon Ro Sports Center.

Vo Xuan An, first Aikido student here, shared, “I used to study Taekwondo previously. Since Mr. Di opened this class, I switched to Aikido. I and many friends found it interesting and useful.”

Nha Trang Aikido Club now has about 100 students, some of whom are foreigners.

Aikido is performed by blending with the motion of the attacker and redirecting the force of the attack rather than opposing it head-on. This requires very little physical strength. The techniques are completed with various throws or joint locks. As a result, Aikido is suitable for every age.
