Football Dreams 2012 arrives in Nha Trang

The Qatar Aspire Academy’s ‘2012 Football Dreams’ program, a unique and fascinating humanitarian football project existent in developing countries in Asia, Latin America and Africa, and aimed at identifying the future talents of world football, took place in Nha Trang on July 23.

Having come to Vietnam since 2008, Football Dreams has become a festival for boys in the age of 13 – 14, who dream of a professional football player, nationwide.

'Football Dreams 2012 in Vietnam' has three rounds. The first round, held in June, was enrolled by local scouts.

In the second round, Football Dreams will be do recruitment respectively in 63 cities and provinces across the country to find out Vietnamese football talents.

The recruitment in Nha Trang took place at Nha Trang Sports Center on July 23. 200 adolescent players from 16 wards and communes of Nha Trang eagerly joined the competition. The candidates, divided into teams, competed in a 25-minite match. Despite the baking sun, the boys played wholeheartedly, showing their love for football and their dream to become professional footballers.

“I’m very happy to join this event. I dream to be a famous football player like Messi or Ronaldo”, Pham Gia Hung, a 7-grade pupil from Trung Vuong Secondary School, said.

During the second round, foreign experts from Barcelona will select 50 excellent players from 60,000 candidates across the country.

Next, the final round will find out three most excellent players among above 50 to send to Quatar for a training course at Aspire Academy with other selected young players from 11 other players in one month.

After one month, the best player will receive a three-year scholarship for a professional football playing training course.

Alek Hannessian, a scout from Barcelona, highly appreciated Vietnamese young players. He said, “I’ve done the selection in many countries. When doing it in Vietnam, I am very surprised at development of football movement here. Vietnamese young players have deep love for football and they have good skills. Our norms are health, skill and team playing. Many players here meet these norms.”
