Khanh Hoa Province ’s football has a development history for over 30 years; but now the first players still keep their keenness on this sports and a glorious history about the province’s football team.

Football in Khanh Hoa Province (formerly Phu Khanh Province ) has developed early since the country was just liberated over 30 years ago. In those days, only with a clear ground and a plastic ball stuffed with straw, men could play football. It was a premise to find out talented players like Duong Quang Ho, Hoang Minh Tan, Pham Ngoc Hung, Bui Anh Tho, Dao Nguyen Bao, etc.

Nguyen Van Chien, a back in Phu Khanh Football Team, reminded, “In the past, to play football, I had to ride my bicycle 10 – 15 kilometers to Thanh or Dong Bo or catch a ferry to Vinh Luong. We came with football spontaneously by keenness, and then gathered a team. At that time, there were no good football grounds and no coaches like now.”

In the old generation of the province’s football players, scorer Duong Quang Ho was the most remarkable. He also was the first player of the province listed in the national football team in 1982.

The one-time football star, 50 years old now, told, “In the old days, despite material difficulties, we were keen on playing football. Each month, a player was paid only VND36 and 21 kilogram of rice. We traveled from the South to the North by a very old car which carried all necessities. However, we always played with our best.”

Football of Phu Khanh Province has been well-known for technical playing since then. From 1980  to 1989, the team got good achievement and played at A1 level.

In 1989 when Phu Khanh was divided into two provinces Khanh Hoa and Phu Yen, the thin force made the team decline till Khanh Viet Corporation sponsored and put Khanh Hoa’s football team up to V-League in 2003.
