Khanh Hoa Taekwondo Team invests much in young athletes

With good achievement at the Taekwondo tournament for pupils in the Central and the Highlands and the national Taekwondo tournament for young ages, two athletes of Khanh Hoa Province have been called for the national team to compete in the coming Southeast Asian Nations Taekwondo Championship in Myanmar.

Khanh Hoa Province this year has got a remarkable number of medals in Taekwondo. In the two recent tournaments, Taekwondo athletes of the province won 34 medals in total. Specifically, at the Taekwondo tournament for pupils in the Central and the Highlands held in Dac Lac Province in early March, 14 athletes of the province got 25 medals, including 17 golds, 5 silvers and 3 bronzes; and at the national Taekwondo tournament for young ages in Hau Giang Province in middle April, 9 medals including 2 golds, 2 silvers and 5 bronzes were achieved, 5 athletes were bestowed veteran level and one rose to the first level.

Noticeably, the athletes getting high achievement in the two tournaments are still very young. They are promising force for the development of the sport.

Recently, Vietnam Taekwondo Federation under General Department of Sports and Physical Training has called two young athletes named Nguyen Thi Thu Thuy and Nguyen Thi Cam Tu and a coach of the province for Southeast Asian Nations Taekwondo Championship in Myanmar in May.

Nguyen Van Danh, head coach of Khanh Hoa Taekwondo Team, said, “The team now has reached the year’s targets. However, the athletes are still young and need more practice to get experience.”

In the coming time, the provincial Taekwondo team will invest more in young athletes from 11 to 16 and improve grown athletes for competition in the national Sports Games in middle 2014.
