With the preeminence of some young players, Khanh Hoa beach volleyball championships this year is highly evaluated in quality. However, in terms of movement, this sport does not have an obvious development.
Players’ professional quality improved
Within the framework of the 6th Sports Festival of Khanh Hoa Province, the provincial beach volleyball championships was held from July 26 to 28 at the training and competing ground of Sanna Khanh Hoa. The tournament was joined by 13 male couples and 6 female couples from 7 districts, towns, cities, and 2 teams from Police Department and Khanh Hoa Provincial Vietnam Youth Federation.
According to the organizing board, right from the beginning of the tournament, the disparity in quality between couples were not much thanks to a quite good investment in athlete force of participating units.
Beside candidates for the championship such as Cam Ranh team, Cam Lam team, and Dien Khanh team, there were some young prominent players from other units like Nha Trang and Ninh Hoa.
“The quality of athletes in this year’s tournament is fairly even. Some units have a better investment in the professional quality, so the matches are more attractive,” said Mr. Tran Van Ho, the Coach of Cam Lam beach volleyball team.
However, Mr. Ho said that the investment for this sport was still limited in Cam Lam District in specific and Khanh Hoa Province in general. Specifically, the athletes of Cam Lam team were amateurs who were transferred from indoor volleyball. Nevertheless, the athletes were carefully chosen, and were trained 1 month before the championships.
Owing to the careful preparation, the professional quality of this year’s tournament received a good reaction from audiences.

Lack of orientation in movement development
In terms of movement, the training and competing movement of beach volleyball in localities and units in Khanh Hoa Province has had not a clear development compared to other kinds of sports such as football, indoor volleyball, badminton, and tennis.
In the annual plan for cultural and sports activities, the localities and units had schemes to hold beach volleyball tournament (or sand volleyball tournament), and chose prominent players to compete in provincial championships. Some investment in infrastructures has been done in some localities, such as building sand volleyball courts, holding volleyball tournaments at commune and district level.
However, those investments have been done by halves because of the lack of resources (human, finances, etc.).
According to Mr. Nguyen Duc Son, an official of the provincial Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the championships this year showed the lack of orientation and unequal development of beach volleyball movement in localities.
Therefore, a better orientation is required to promote beach volleyball in specific and Khanh Hoa sports in general.
