2013 Nha Trang Vovinam Championship was held on July 20 – 21 at Nha Trang sports training and competing center. The tournament attracted nearly 150 male and female Vovinam practitioners from 18 units, and clubs in Nha Trang City. The practitioners competed in 2 events: demonstration event (divided by age), and combat event (divided by weight division).
According to the organizing board, 2013 Nha Trang Vovinam Championship aimed to create a playground for Vovinam practitioners to exchange skills and experience. However, the Vovinam tournament this year was within the framework of Nha Trang City physical exercise and sports festival, so that most of the participants showed their strong determination to get the highest achievement and prove their strong development in Vovinam movement.

Nguyen Tuan Thanh, Director of Nha Trang Culture - Sports Center, said that, Vovinam had recently had a quite sustainable development compared to other martial arts movements in Nha Trang City. Addition to Vovinam classes in the communes, wards, Nha Trang Culture - Sports Center, and Provincial Children’s House, etc., some primary schools have been putting Vovinam into their physical exercise teaching program. Those are an important force in popularizing this Vietnamese traditional martial art.
The large amount of participants in this year’s tournament showed a good development of Vovinam movement in Nha Trang City.
Previously, there were about 10 Vovinam clubs with nearly 300-400 followers. Now, Nha Trang City has 21 units, and clubs with over 800 regular followers practicing Vovinam. The number of Vovinam units in Khanh Hoa Province is 41 with about 1,500 learners.
After 2 years of setting Vovinam as an optional subject in physical exercise teaching program in schools across the province, Khanh Hoa now has more than 39,000 Vovinam learners in 6th and 7th grade. That proves Vovinam has been receiving a quite good investment from the provincial authorities.
