Beside creating a useful playground for young people in the city, the annual Nha Trang basketball championships is considered the key factor in developing basketball movement in Khanh Hoa Province.
Annually, on the occasion of summer (early August), young people gather to join Nha Trang City basketball championships, creating an animated atmosphere in Nha Trang sports training and competing center.
In terms of movement, basketball has been attracting a large number of followers among other collective sports.

Some localities in the province which has remained and strongly developed this sport in youth ages are Nha Trang City, Dien Khanh District, Ninh Hoa Town, Cam Ranh City, and Van Ninh District. This development has been showed through the organization of summer basketball classes in Nha Trang sports training and competing center with a lot of learners, and annual opened basketball championships in Nha Trang Culture – Sports Center.
Nguyen Tuan Thanh, Head of organizing board of Nha Trang City basketball championships 2013, said that the tournament aims to create a useful summer playground for young people in the city. Over 5 times of organization, the amount of participants has increased more and more.
The Nha Trang basketball championships 2013 (taking place from August 1 to 7) attracts 21 teams from communes and wards in the city and 3 invited teams from Ninh Hoa Town. The ebullient atmosphere of the competitions shows the interest of young people in this sport.
Reportedly, almost participations are spontaneous teams who were formed by students in high schools in the province.
According to Lu Duc Thanh, Coach of Ninh Hoa basketball team, there are many localities in the province which have remained and developed basketball movement. However, apart from Nha Trang basketball championships, there is no other well-organized tournament in Khanh Hoa Province to promote the development of this sport.
